One of the things that you can do is when you get several pieces sewed together (like the top half of one block) lay it on one of the lines on your mat. Check to see if the edges are straight. It is easier to check at this time than to rip out. That is going to be a pretty quilt. you go girl!

Looks good. Do quilting for fun and the love you put into it for the receiver.
Hi---there are 2 great quilt shops in your area that I know of---one is The Pressure Foot in Longmont and Quality Sewing also in Longmont---have been in both and they are really friendly and helpfull---also check with the county extention office---good luck

Your work is lovely. I think quilters are tougher on themselves than others. As far as ripping out, I call it frog sewing (rip it, rip it, rip it) We all have to do some of that.
The recipient of this beautiful gift will LOVE it. |
We are our own worst critics. Looks good to me. Very cute.

I just looked at where you live. I was born in Fort Collins and we lived in Loveland. My grand parents lived out by the Big Thompson school until they passed many years ago. I loved it there as a child. Lots of memories.

You will get over being so hard on yourself when you accept yourself as a human, none of us is perfect, only the Lord. The people making Turkish rugs put in a mistake on purpose, knowing they are not perfect themselves.
I taught folk art painting for years, (rosemaling) and when a student didn't like their work or thought it should be better or a line was a bit crooked, I told them to set it aside, and look at it again tomorrow and they wouldn't see what they were complaining about. Your work looks fine to me; there is no perfect quilt, we all are proud of what we do and only we have to know how hard we worked on a piece. A blind man running for his life will never notice, I was told once. Carol J. |
Looks to me like you are doing a great job. I agree with everyone else here. Don't be so hard on yourself. Quit ripping out your quilts. Life is too short for that. You will learn something on every quilt you make. We are our worst critics. You need to just relax and enjoy the process. Quilting is suppossed to be a HOBBY! I promise when you finish this quilt and stand back away from it you are going to be thrilled with the final product. So thrilled you will want to start another one right away!
I was told early on by a professional quilter that I should NOT worry about matching seams and points right away......to spend my "worry time" on color. The rest will eventually fall into place. Just have fun with it!
Looks fine to me and I love the butterfly and green fabric, would like to see this when finished.
Very nice! I love your fabrics.
Great job and great fabric! We will enjoy seeing it finished.
Perfect block. So just what is your problem?
It looks good to me. Your points match up beautifully. Don't you dare come anywhere near that with a seam ripper! In fact, give the seam ripper to your DH and have him hide it. Seriously though, quilting is supposed to be FUN. Don't worry about being perfect. Nothing in life is perfect.
Looks great to me. Do not rip it apart. Enjoy quilting and don't be so hard on yourself.
You need to make a rule...."I will not take the tops apart!" Just be happy with what you are doing and if a point is off...that is okay.
Seriously...quilting is suppose to be fun...not frustrating. It is okay to make mistakes. :-) |
One quilt designer, who I love to use her patterns, says quilting is supposed to be fun, so enjoy it. I have had to learn to accept some of my mistakes because after the quilting they are not nearly as noticed as I thought they would be. If I am totally unhappy and know I could do better then I tear out or make a second one.
I think your block looks good :D |
your points are perfect. I wish mine were as good as yours. You are doing great.
Your star is beautiful! Too often we are the hardest on ourselves and I think you are being too hard on yourself. There are many quilters here who want everything to be "perfect" but as you continue to quilt you will find that perfection is not all it is cracked up to be and in face it is impossible to achieve. Even if you have a few wrinkles and bubbles along the way getting a top quilted hides a lot of sins. I love your fabrics and completly want to see this as a finished quilt.
I think your colours are beautiful. Your points look very close to me. I think you are being to hard on yourself. I look forward to seeing this finished
Love your own work! This looks good and deserves to be finished. Sometimes it helps to remember you are a growing quilter! Each quilt teaches us something and you have a great selection of fabrics. Be kind to yourself and stop ripping!!
You are doing a great job! Stop being so critical! It's supposed to be fun, not make you frantic, relax and enjoy!
Hi, from a long time quilter in South Central MO. My-O-My! Please stop worrying about your ability to move on in your piecing and quilting. I have to agree with so many before me...you're doing a great job! And the colors you've chosen are beautiful! Yummy, actually. Look forward to seeing it together! Blessings and have fun with your quilting...your friends and family will be overjoyed to receive something that you've made for them! Remember in any art form there are slight imperfections...that's what makes them so precious and helps us grow. We learn as we go and that's the way it's supposed to be!
I love your fabrics! Don't see anything wrong with your star. It will be beautiful. Post a finished picture.
You are doing a very fine and competent job. Keep going. You might consider showing us what you believe you are doing wrong, so we can give you input along the way? We just love to be encouraging. :D
Your work looks lovely. Don't be so hard on yourself - no one is "perfect." Don't know how close you are to Fountain, but when I was visiting my son in Pueblo, found a wonderful shop in Fountain - I am sure the two sisters who own it would love to help you and give you inspiration.

hi carol, i also live in colo close to you
so if you are interested in taking classes call ghe sweeheart quilt shop in loveland they give classes all the time. |
Lokks great to me. Nice job

Hi Carol,
Looks like we are from the same neighborhood! I love your colors and your block looks great to me. My favorite teacher that I have ever had told us about the 10 foot rule. If you can't see it from 10 feet away it doesn't exist! She still gives classes at the Quilters Studio in Longmont. Her name is Donna Mae and she does a start to finish class that would be great for you. Everyone at the shop is very friendly and helpful. Also go online and look up the Quilt quild in Fort Collins I think it is The League of Northern Colorado Quilters. They have a program where they pair and new quilter with an experienced quilter to help them with any questions or problems they might have with their projects. The Fig Leaf in Fort Collins is a great Quilt store also. PM me if you have any questions. Good luck! :-) |
This post is a gem. Go forth and do your best!
Beautiful colors. Looks perfect to me. Would like to see the finish baby quilt!
You sure have a good sense of color. That is the hard part for me. I've just made three now, and they are all dark...tans and beige..browns. Can't seem to buy bright things. Its a learning experience I guess. I like your colors. They are nice.
You are doing a great job. Keep up the good work.
It looks just right.
It's beautiful! The search for perfection will make you old and grumpy. Enjoy! Nina

I love your colour choice for the patchwork. Just relax and, as others have said, enjoy your craft. Often others do not notice any "imperfections" that only you know about anyway. I was told that when there is a mistake in one of my quilts, to leave it. It gives it character and a little bit of history to talk about in years to come.
Making and giving a quilt is one of the most pleasurable experiences that I personally enjoy most. Unsewing constantly leaves you with poor memories of the quilt which is sad. The recipient is not likely to inspect it with a quilt judges eyes anyway, so try not to worry too much. I look forward to seeing more of your work. Best wishes |

I have put together sooo many quilt tops and taken apart sooo many quilt tops and struggled for years with quilting. I am sure I have made at least 10 to 20 tops and taken each and everyone of them completely apart because I just wasn't sure of them. I don't have any family that lives nearby and I currently don't know anyone nearby that quilts. My husband was starting to get frustrated with me and he suggested that I look for some help and get up and over this mountain that I seem to be climbing. I promised my husband that this would be the year that I learn to quilt from start to finish ~ even if I have to pull out a bazzillion or more stitches. So, here I am...I am currently waiting for the start of a quilting class and I am currently working on a top for what I hope turns into a baby quilt for my husband's cousin. This quilt is supposed to have a huge star in the middle of it. Then it will be framed with two different widths of border and then binding. I am enclosing a photo in hopes that some of you might take a look at what I have done so far and give me some feedback. Are my squares and points lined up close enough? Am I on the right track? I really need all the help I can get right now, so I thank you all in advance for your feedback, both positive and negative. ~Carol~ |
It looks great to me too! It's not about the perfection; it's the journey we all seek! Relax and have fun with it. Finish it, it'll be lovely! Welcome to our community. I just started quilting last June & these folks still have my learning curve in the vertical position. Enjoy!
I like it, just keep plugging away at it and don't be so hard on yourself, it looks to me like you do really good work
Your thread could have been written by me. I was just like you, always sewing and ripping. It wasnt until I relaxed, and did'nt worry about the quilt police that I started enjoying the process. If seams or points don't match my thought maybe the next one will.
Relax and enoy what you are doing. Like all the others have said your blocks looks good and your colors are perfect. |
