You're not crazy. Know exactly how you feel. Someone recently GAVE me 5 huge bags of scraps (not all were quilt material). I felt actually giddy with excitement as I went through the bags. I'm certain my son thought I had lost it. I've already started making crazy quilts. Smaller pieces were perfect. Have 2 lap quilts finished and more to come. They will all go to nursing homes.

No You are normal in my world!!! in fact, send me your address and I can help you build a stash... :D
My breathing gets uneven when I get close to the fabric store that I'm headed to. I just know I'll want a piece of everything they have. Talk about fabric addiction!! I think I've got an acute case.
Quilt scraps are who we are! I go to a Wed afternooon quilt class at my LQS and there is always someone there who wants left overs. It is a great way to share and we don't go home with scraps we don't intend to use! Better than waste baskets!!
how exciting to get fabric like that.
Aren't surprises wonderful? If we waited for time, we would never have fun accomplishing gifts of the heart. Pay forward is a wonderful philosophy I try to include in my life. You'll make it! Good luck reaping rewards from this project.
You and that fabric were meant to be. Charitable thoughts often work out like that. Because you want to help others, others have helped you!
Just more proof that we quilters are all a breed of our own. Who else could get excited over receiving a bag of fabric scraps but a quilter?
Maybe you could ask them to save the bags of scraps for you if you could by weekly or so to pick them up. It's a shame they throw them away! |
You are so right, quilters are a "breed of their own". I was recently gifted with two wonderful quilting angels who are giving me material so I can continue to quilt, etc. I am so blessed to have found this site and all these wonderful angels. Good thoughts and thank you.

all quilt and book stores feel like a candy store to me cannt get enough of them. So good of you to make a quilt for chartity i am just starting my second quilt for the downy kids it just warms your heart to do for some else. mkay

I don't think you are insane at all. I have a lot of fabric but I am always looking for more. I am going to see a lady tomorrow about some more fabric because she is no longer able to sew.I always give my quilts away but I love making them. If I died today I guess my husband would have a giant yard sale. My DILs go shopping in my stash a lot too so I have to buy more. LOL
I would think you are crazy if you didn't feel that way.
You are one of us now based on your reaction to a bag full of scraps. Wait till you can put practically a whole quilt together just from your stash! Oh what a feeling that is!!! Enjoy the gift!
Well if you are insane then all of us are insane in this group! LOL We all feel like a kid in a candy store when fabric is involved. Enjoy & have fun!
Not crazy at all,. I do Downy Quilts for kids
And just think of all the fun you had/or will have, going thru that stuff.
Like a kid opening gifts. |
Enjoy!
now, did that lady make you very happy, or what?
Scrap quilts are fun, especially when you get more scraps from someone else.

You are a blessed person and it just shows that you made the right choice in becoming a newbie quilter. It was ment to be and the fabric proves it. Yea be gitty and enjoy your gift.
What a good thing for the store owner to do. Guess she made a friend and good customer. I love to look at some one else scraps and wonder what they were making.
You are blessed! Now make something wonderful!
Kind Regards, MaryAnna |

Wow! Great Happiness!
My friends save their little scraps for me. It is like free fabric.I used to through away any thing under an inch. One charity member told me to sew all the little scraps together and then use a six or four inch template to square them into a block. I was told that srcappy quilts were of every color, every which way. Every time I sew I put a few scraps together. This way the scraps don't over whelm me and soon I will have enough scrap squares to make a quilt. I was told that this was called a crumble block. It is fun and I can give back. Christina Happy Sewing! |
Christina,
I love making crumb blocks! I just finished a lap sized crumb quilt a month ago and it was so much fun. Sharon |
Congratulations and enjoy !!
That's fantastic.
your post made me smile. you are asking fabriholics and quilting maniacs if you are insane? the first step is admitting you have a problem. you don't have a problem! plus last i checked there is not a 12 step program for quilters. so, enjoy your scraps! you can always make doll quilts & practice techniques on small size quilts. have fun!
Thats Awesome Anne. Way to go.
Yes, you are completely nuts!!! Like we all are....enjoy playing with your scraps!
How nice,

Ah...Heidelberg. Was there in mid 50's while on leave. Was in armed forces attached to Nato. Beautiful country.
You are the cause of your good fortune. It seems to you you were doing small talk with that person, you expressed your good intentions and generosity. I'm sure that this person understood you and wanted to participate in her own way. Quilters are a very special community, join the club and be aware of other people dreams,
Just take the time to thank the Lord. He had you at the right place at the right time. God bless
Patsy--100% in agreement with you on that.
