Today I went to my LQS, so far so good. As intended, I bought the fabric for a quilt my MIL will receive as her Christmas gift.
While she was cutting fabric and we were chatting, I told the owner, I'm planning on making a scrap quilt for charity one day, although my husband thinks I lack the time (and I KNOW I'm lacking the fabric). As a newbie, I don't have a huge stash, or let's face the truth, I don't have a stash at all. But then something miraculous happened: She passed me a paper bag full of scraps she wanted to toss. Lucky me I was there to save them, and now I am one happy camper :). Although it's not enough for a scrap quilt, it's a kind of a serious beginning, what do you think? I'd really love to pay it forward, b/c I think I'm blessed with my kids, my husband, everything. Am I insane feeling like a kid in the candy store with my bag of fabric goodies? Kinda crazy, huh? |
Not crazy at all! Just think how happy you are going to make someone else with those scraps! Pay it forward.
I'd go with the "Or what" part of your question! You are certainly NOT insane! I get giddy about fabric, too. Especially when I get a good deal (or free!!) :-D
That's a great quilt store story. And, no, you are not crazy.
I would be just as excited as you!! We're either all crazy or all not crazy!!! :D:D
Have fun!!!!!! |
not crazy at all. I think all of us here would be just as excited if we had received the same gift. Pay it forward either by giving your scraps away or by starting your scrap quilt and finishing it when you come across more. either way you will get a lovely since of acheivment.
Just the fact that you are planning to make a charity quilt from the scraps means you have already made a down-payment on your "pay it forward." Just keep adding to your collection until you have enough, then go for it.
I know the feeling! Doesn't take much fabric to make me happy!
Definitely not insane  Welcome to our crazy world , where even the smallest of fabric makes us giddy with excitement
You are one of us. All fabric, even scraps make me happy.
Yep, I rub it, smell it and cuddle it, cut it, stitch it and even iron it. Fabric makes the world go around! Glad the kid in you got released. Enjoy the joy!
Blessings, Ruth |
I think your getting those scraps was heaven blessing your project.
Enjoy! |
Not at all...you were in the right place at the right time!!
Those scraps had your name written all over them. Good job!
I think that's great. Congratulations. What a nice LQS owner to do that.
No, your not insane!!!!! What a nice lady!
Whenever someone gives me fabric not matter the size or quality I just about cry. I love fabrics and if that makes me or you crazy then so be it.

I had made a comment on this QuiltingBoard that I want to make quilts from my stash for Quilts for Kids, but don't have children's fabric. So far, three ladies have sent me fabrics & soon as I get the 3 kit quilts that Quilts for Kids sent me to do, I'll start putting together the stash quilt. Making something for someone else who is in pain, esp a wee one in a hospital, makes me feel good.
You were in the right place at the right time. The owner may keep scraps to share for people just like you who are starting out. My favorite Aunt (she passed away May 09) saved scraps for me when I was a teen to make little pillows, & her & my Grandmother helped me make & quilt my daughter's baby quilt with Sunbonnet Sue's. As many here have said, quilters are such giving people. Pay it forward is a great feeling. |
Holy Cow! I'd have stopped everyone I saw on the way to my car and shouted it to the heavens that I got FREE fabric! Lucky girl, being in the right place at the right time should happen to everyone at least once, it really makes your day!
One suggestion! Enjoy her generosity but make sure you reply by giving her a picture of the quilt you end up making. just so she knows it went to good use. This may cause her to do it again sometime.
Lucky lady, you were born to quilt!

Me either....have fun with your scraps of material |
If you want more scraps, PM me. I have tons.
How do we spell insane? ADDICTED!
A blessing is just that a blessing, It is a free gift and we should be joyful. It means that you are appreciative. One day you will give to someone and receive another blessing, the joy of giving. I believe in "what you sew (sow) you reap." Woo Hoo you got what your heart desired. To help someone else. Keep the cycle going.
No, you are not crazy! You were visited by the quilting angel today. Smile and be happy!
That's wonderful. Enjoy them, before you press them throw them on your bed and roll around on them. Insane? Of course! We all are so you're in excellent company. We're insane about fabric, notions, rulers, machines, patterns, etc. What? Someone out there doesn't believe me? Try to get in on something posted on here for sale. We're like hungry vultures. LOLOLOL
The LQSs in my area save their scraps to give away.
No you are NOT crazy. Pay if forward someday!
 No I feel that way even when I buy or revisit my stach.
Thank you for your willingness to make quilts for charity. My LQS gave me about 8 bolts of what was left on them when she found out that I helped make quilts for our church to send to Lutheran World Relief. We use what is donated. Several ladies from the quilt guild also gave me fabric. We were so thankful for all of it. We have made some beautiful quilts out of fabric that others have not needed. THANK YOU!
That was VERY nice of her :D:D:D Maybe she will keep you in mind for the next bag too
Not crazy at all but instead lucky! I guess you were in the right place at the right time! Enjoy your little windfall and make something fun with those scraps!

Thank you for all of your kind comments. Makes me feel good not to be the only one who is addicted. Just didn't expect it to go this fast, b/c I'm such a newbie to sewing.
In case you are interested in the charity I'm planning to sew something for: I got to know a young woman. She had a baby, which was diagnosed with leucemia shortly after birth. The parents were devastated, but nonetheless they started fighting the battle. The baby got a cell transplant, which went out fine, just to pass away at the age of ten month b/c of an hospital infection, which she couldn't fight anymore. Her wonderful and more than brave parents, god bless them, shortly after this, founded a charity organisation to help other kids and families in need. To me, this is just above everything. Besides sharing their grief, I admire them and feel the need to support their chartity organisation. You can read more about it here: http://www.helenes-helfer.de/home. It's in German, but I'm sure you get it just by seing the picture of the precious little baby, who touched peoples life in the short period of time she was allowed to be on earth. I hope to be able to collect enough fabric for a nice quilt (or maybe two), batting and backing I'm gonna buy from the lady who donated the scraps. I'm planning on selling the quilt in an auction/raffle to raise some money for this charity. Thanks for making it to the end and thank you for your kind thoughts, not only according to my upcoming addiction :). Hugs from Germany, Anne |
I received 3 large boxes of quilting goodies from a lady hosting an estate sale. I still have yet to go through all of the for a 3rd time. 98% of the items are exactly what I needed. It is amazing how God works! I cannot wait to see the quilt.
You are definately a Fabricolic. Sorry no help available only to sew and sew and sew. OH and collect even more fabric and more and more.
Just noticed you are from Germany,
save the land fill and do something nice...beyond nice selfless! the owner is probably hoping to keep you happy! a happy customer comes back for batting!
