Never thought of using it on the ruler. I use a piece of a post it note on the ruler. I have used the blue tape to mark quilting lines on the fabric.
So glad I read this tonight. Now, I will use the tape on the ruler. It will stay on better than the post it note.

Blue tape is my friend, but not the cheap brand.
