Am I the only one?

Is there any one else out there who has been quilting instead of putting away Christmas decorations? I had the day off work and instead of getting my Christmas decorations put away, I spent most of the day in my sewing room. Anyone else?

QuiltE 01-02-2012 02:43 PM

I wish I had .... I decided I'd better work on the de-Christmas-fying of my home. However, I'm stopping for the night and going to sew. The things have been stripped, and congregated. I can pack them away another day!

Tonight ... sew!

Deb watkins 01-02-2012 02:43 PM

I don't put Christmas away till Jan 6th, I like the idea of Little Christmas......and I also spent most of the day sewing. Happy New Quilting Year to ME!

Kim Bohannon 01-02-2012 02:43 PM

lol.. I haven't even thought about putting my decorations away... we just have lights up, so won't bee all that much trouble. I am sewing some today... worked on my quilt (handquilting) for a while and then found a Paper Piecing practice pattern, so had to try it... turned out beautifully! Now to try the snowflake block.... we'll see how well I take to PP!

maryb119 01-02-2012 02:44 PM

I put my Christmas decorations away the day after Christmas. I had the day off so I used the time to get it done. I have been busy sewing since.

Up North 01-02-2012 02:47 PM

I enjoy my tree more after Christmas than before with all the hustle and bustle! So it will be up a few more days.

SueSew 01-02-2012 02:50 PM

oh no! That was the order of the day here at my house and it never even got started. Same story here - men in front of the TV, me quilting.

prezzy 01-02-2012 03:03 PM

My tree stays up all year, we just change the decorations on it. Next we will put on hearts for V day. We are so used to it being there that it is part of the furniture. My dgd wanted this, so it is there. lol

sewmary 01-02-2012 03:07 PM

My son came over and took down, packed away, and carried all bins to basement my Christmas stuff for me on Saturday. I am spoiled.

Margie 01-02-2012 03:07 PM

I leave my tree up until Epiphany.

Dina 01-02-2012 03:09 PM

Oh, quilting comes before everything here....particularly housework!! Okay, honesty huh...a lot of quilting goes on, but the necessary stuff gets done too, just not always first. I do have to admit y decorations are down, and I have been sewing ever since I boxed them all up. Feels great!

JulieR 01-02-2012 03:16 PM

I quilted instead of putting them up in the first place.

fluffygirl 01-02-2012 03:23 PM

Not quilting, but some stitching I promised my daughter. I still have some friends that wanted to see my tree and haven't been by, so that is my excuse! I'm going to enjoy the decorations for a few more days:D

I certainly thought about it but that is as far as I got. After DH painted the BR and Bath this past week it needed curtains and night stand toppers. Then there was the dog bed to finish and DD is working on her fourth quilt sooooooooo......... decs will have to be put away at night when I get home from work this week.

QuiltingGrannie 01-02-2012 03:47 PM

I was disciplined this time around. All the Christmas decor, tree etc came down and got packed away yesterday. Today I had to work. Tomorrow I am off, but going to work on business taxes so I'm ready for that appointment with the tax man. Then I have a quilting class to organize that I'll be teaching later this month. THEN I will get to quilting! I'm also designing two quilts for patterns to sell. So I'm in the quilting realm, just not sewing ----- yet.

Not doing either, got the tree up 2 days before X-mas so I am going to enjoy it for a while, don't have my new table so I am waiting for it to quilt

ksdot417 01-02-2012 04:00 PM

I got my Christmas decorations down on Saturday and put away. Spent most of Sunday and Monday sewing. It was wonderful.

zennia 01-02-2012 04:06 PM

I leave mine up to enjoy now that all the crazies are over. Love sitting with the christmas lights on at night,so cozy.

JMCDA 01-02-2012 04:12 PM

I'm not quite sure when ppl started putting decorations up so early, when I was growing up they came out when the tree came in, which was only a week at most before Christmas..and then we left them up until the tree absolutely had to go out. We still follow that timeline now, even with artificial trees the decorations go up the week before Christmas and then we usually leave them up through most of January - it is such a bleak, grey month the decorations and lights cheer things up....

I didn't quilt today but I did clean, oil and mess around with my new vintage teal blue machine!

I had to return to school today as a teacher work day. Drats! I would have loved to sew. Now I'm too tired.

mighty 01-02-2012 04:29 PM

Put mine away yesterday. Did not want to but got it done. Went to M&L fabrics today and purchased a lot of fabric to get the year started off right.LOL

CajunQuilter2 01-02-2012 04:45 PM

would have done some quilting/sewing but have been fighting a cold/sinus infection for the 3rd time in 3 months and I know if I work on something when not felling well I mess it up every time. And I still have 4 projects I need to get done.

Country1 01-02-2012 04:52 PM

Wish I could have done either, not been a good day here. Had kitchen sink fixed ( very little water pressure ) then inspection of gas pack ( heating and cooling unit.) Wouldn't you know it, rust thru something or nother, they shut off our gas until we get new unit. Needless to say a VERY expensive day!
So on the up side, I guess we'll just have to snuggle in front of the fireplace tonight. Calling for temps in the teens tonight.

CindyA 01-02-2012 04:55 PM

We put our tree up the latest ever! It went up on Christmas Eve and all but one strand of lights were burnt out (it's prelit). Too late and tired to worry about it so we had a partially lit tree - kind of pitiful looking like the Charlie Brown tree. We also had put up new lights on the two tall holly trees on either side of the front porch. We got that done the weekend after Thanksgiving on a really nice day, so at least we had time to enjoy those. They were so pretty and not too difficult to put up using the extendable pole that we trim trees with. But those strands started burning out a day or two before Christmas!! It was too depressing to look at all the burnt out lights and we couldn't get them fixed, so we took everything down a couple days after Christmas. The earliest that's ever been finished, also!

dakotamaid 01-02-2012 05:06 PM

My decorations are always put away on Jan 1st or 2nd as my daughter's birthday is the 4th. We liked her day to be separate from Christmas when she was little and the habit has stayed with us. I've been busy sewing a gift. Shhhhhhhhh!

deedum 01-02-2012 05:18 PM

We got most of ours down, then I cut out a tumbler baby quilt and realized I don't have what I want for the border material. Then I fell and now nothing is getting done, decorations or quilting.

Ginny B 01-02-2012 05:24 PM

Christmas decorations will be up until next weekend. We don't take them down until after Jan. 6 and like a few others have said, now that the hustle and bustle has calmed down, I can relax and enjoy the tree. I worked on cleaning up my craft/sewing area and I oiled my FW - then I made myself a January mug rug for my desk at work-- blue material with snowflakes. Going to finish putting the binding on now while watching tv.

QuiltnCowgirl 01-02-2012 05:26 PM

Yup - me too! Been off for 3 days and all I managed to get done was to wash the Christmas table linens LOL.

Marni 01-02-2012 06:01 PM

Yep-that's been me-sewing instead of cleaning up-life is good :)))

QuiltnNan 01-02-2012 06:33 PM

it takes so much work to put up the decor that i want to enjoy it longer. i usually don't put it away until mid month.

quiltinghere 01-02-2012 06:45 PM

Tree still up and lit until first weekend after Jan 6. "Special" decorations still around (LOVE to see them and remember). Other decorations put away yesterday.

sylvia77 01-02-2012 07:03 PM

I put up my decorations yesterday and today I spent sewing, yeah!

I, also, have to go back today for inservice and tomorrow the kids start back. I am trying to figure out how I can sneak my sewing machine into the classroom! LOL....

Murphy 01-03-2012 04:41 AM

Me too. We still have a friends Christmas to celebrate.

You said "fell"
Hope you are ok!

Krystyna 01-04-2012 04:08 AM

I spent two days using up my Christmas fabric by making 16 aprons and matching potholders. The Christmas stuff is half down and what a mess!

Quilt-Till-U-Wilt 01-04-2012 05:25 AM

Took my tree down New Years Day. Am frantically hand quilting on a double quilt I started on about 2 years ago. Determined to get it done this year.

raptureready 01-04-2012 05:37 AM

I have and I'm not ashamed of it. Household chores are more loyal than any husband or old dog---it doesn't matter how many others are in the house, chores will never cheat on you no matter how much you ignore them. They don't get their feelings hurt or get jealous. They'll sit right by your feet, to your left, right, front and or back and wait for you until you make time for them.
I once left my tree up until two of my step children got to come home. I changed the decorations to go with the different seasons. By the time we were able to locate and go get them it was July so the tree had little flags and the lights were red, white, and blue.

WMUTeach 01-04-2012 05:39 AM

I have had to be at work and all I can think of is the unfinished little candy bar quilt sitting by my machine. The decorations are still up, the little quilt unfinished and this week-end will be a challenge....... quilt or decorations just like many of the rest of us!

anniesews 01-04-2012 06:12 AM

Half and half. Can't go a week without being in my "imagine" room. When I look at my stash, I imagine what it will be.
