I also sew at the kitchen table, and cut and press in the utility room (office). Fabric in tubs in corner of front room. Maybe some day will have a room for sewing.

Oh, how I feel for all of you and don't wish you were in my shoes. I HAD a nice big work room for my computer and sewing machine, ironing board and a nice big closet for all my stash. Now I'm moving and because that room needed painting before I sell my home, have had to move all my stuff out and am now sewing on the kitchen table with the ironing board right beside it. Bummer!

I have a sewing room, but old habits die hard still use dining room table and drag material and everything else but I like being in the hub of things in the house,

I never had my own space for sewing until my daughter moved out and than as the boys got ready to move..as your children grow and move out you will have your space...don't rush it..thank god they are there and can appreciate what you go through to quilt...heheheh..blessings

I also have to sew on the kitchen table. My DH built me a sewing cabinet that is in the kitchen. Holds all my sewing supplies and WIP's All my fabric is in the attic - not hard to get to. DH is preparing to build me a sewing cabinet with mechanical lift. This will eliminate having to clear the table everyday. However, I deal with it. It could be worse. Some people have no home to sew in. We need to count our blessing.

For many years, I had no place to sew but a corner of the bedroom. Then I managed to figure out how to take a small closet (not walk in) and use it for sewing table and machine and store the stuff in containers under the sewing table. If you have a bookcase that you could use the lower half for setting a machine at right angle you could use that. Another way to get a little space is using a vintage/or not table like and end table at the end of a sofa, or in a hall. Look hard there is usually somewhere that you can find a little space.
To free up the small closet I had to "organize" the other closets to accomodate the stuff out of the closet. Perhaps you could find some space like that. I am an empty nester now and have a whole room for sewing, and no matter how much space you have, you always need more.

That was also me back in the old days, when the 4 children were small I would sew in a corner of the basement playroom so I could also be with them. My middle daughter told me one of her fondest childhood memories was the sound of the sewing machine while they were playing.
When the oldest moved out it took me 5 min. to convert his room (only boy so the only one with his own room) into a sewing room. He was shocked when he came home for a visit, he thought I would keep his room like a shrine. LOL.
Now I have a large studio in a bright walk out basement, I love it, but sometimes miss the old days that were so many years ago, now I'm a grandmother & great grandmother & still sewing.

From the picture, looks like a 5th wheel? I am on my 5th year in a RV. Finally took out a couch this summer, moved the other one to the other side of room and I finally have a sewing table that folds down quite small. No more 6 ft. table in the middle of the floor. Sure do miss my sewing room I gave up - miss my house too!! Hopefully someday he will get tired of this way of life!!

I have taken over our table and that is where I cut and sew. My DH has gotten used to eating in the Living room. Bless his heart is all I can say. If it were his hobby taking over the table I don't know if I could be so tolerant. When my boys moved away I have taken over their room as well. That is where I can lay out my quilts for basting and store everything else relating to quilting.

You are not the only one. I live in a 1 bedroom apt, and my bedroom is my sanctuary, and will remain undisturbed, but I still want to have a dining room now and then, not a whatever-I'm-in-the-middle-of-at-the-moment room. So my friend (he's so handy to have around) helped me come up with the concept in the photos. I love it because when I have company I can just hide everything behind the curtains and be done with it. I bought the curtains for about $35 I think (2 sets obviously), and the shelves, support, rods, etc. - I think it was done with less than $150. I've since purchased more shelves (set of 4 for $20 from Craigslist) to further surround the other 2 walls of the room for more fabric storage.
