can't sew with shoes on? :D I even kick them off if I'm taking a class or test driving a machine.

littlehud 02-17-2011 11:48 AM

Same here. I sew in stocking feet.

bjeriann 02-17-2011 11:50 AM

I've never been able to sew with shoes on. I rarely wear shoes.

jayelee 02-17-2011 11:50 AM

My shoes dont make it much further than inside the door of the house I do everything without my shoes.

scowlkat 02-17-2011 11:51 AM

Rule in my house - no shoes or bra! (unless company comes when I will at least put a bra on but mostly leave the shoes off)

AWESOME!

suezquilts 02-17-2011 11:52 AM

when I wear my shoes I drive my peddle until I can't reach it any longer.

LeslieFrost 02-17-2011 11:56 AM

You are most certainly not alone! My right shoe is always off at the sewing machine!

maryb119 02-17-2011 11:57 AM

I sew barefoot or with socks only. I think I have more control over the machine.

luvTooQuilt 02-17-2011 11:59 AM

Me too.. Cant feel the foot petal with shoes.. lol.. Half the time I have one shoe on and one shoe off..lol..

SherriB 02-17-2011 12:02 PM

Most of the time I sew with my right shoe off. I don't feel like I can control the petal with my shoes on. I never wear shoes in the house, just my comfy houseshoes. If it weren't for being diabetic, I would never wear shoes.

wyckedquilter 02-17-2011 12:06 PM

Slippers or socks...

Raggiemom 02-17-2011 12:06 PM

I must be the odd one then because I sew with my shoes on!

kapatt 02-17-2011 12:08 PM

 I always take off the shoe that is pushing on the foot control. It doesn't matter if I am at home, in a store or in a class.

QuiltnCowgirl 02-17-2011 12:11 PM

LOL I have always sewn without my shoe on. Drove my Home Ec teachers crazy! And looks funny in a quilting class walking around with one shoe on & one shoe off. I don't care - it is the sewing that matters. :)

Borntohandquilt 02-17-2011 12:17 PM

Before I sit down at my quilting hoop I take off my shoes- it is much more comfortable.

CorgiNole 02-17-2011 12:21 PM

I found myself walking around my LQS in my socks a few weeks ago after kicking off my boots during class. Thought twice the next three weeks about what shoes I put on to make it easier to slip in and out of them during the rest of class.

Cheers, K

deema 02-17-2011 12:30 PM

Bare foot, here. If it's really reeeeally cold, I'll wear a thin sock on my right foot, and a slipper on the other.

Shoes, those are for city girls. lol No, I can't either, nice to no I'm not the only one. My dh fusses at me though because I'm an insulin dependent diabetic. But I keep telling him "I can't"

Dingle 02-17-2011 12:36 PM

It doesn't matter to me. I don't use the pedal. I use the button

dltaylor 02-17-2011 12:42 PM

Ha..ha.. that's funny, I do that too. I am so very glad to know that I am not as strange as I thought...LOL

LovinMySoldier 02-17-2011 12:45 PM

Well it sounds like I am the only one that is different LOL. I wear cowboy boots a lot! I usually get dressed and head out and leave my boots on all day until bed. So I sew with my boots on LOL. I do put my foot pedal against the table leg so I don't continually chase it. But sewing with my boots on doesn't bother me :)

craftybear 02-17-2011 12:51 PM

I can with or without shoes, but when I am home no shoes

AliKat 02-17-2011 12:53 PM

Funny. I can't sew barefooted ... or do anything except be at the pool, or a beach, or in a hot tub barefooted. My best friend can't abide wearing shoes at all around her home. By the way, she has her foot pedal upside down when she sews.

That's what makes life so much fun. We aren't all alike.

slstitcher 02-17-2011 12:55 PM

I sew with my shoe off at home and in classes.

patricej 02-17-2011 01:04 PM

barefoot ... no matter how cold.

MaryStoaks 02-17-2011 01:07 PM

I use my big toe to run my FW. Can't sew with shoes on.

Same here

Stitchnripper 02-17-2011 01:30 PM

I can go either way depending on my mood and where my shoes are at the moment.

Murphy 02-17-2011 01:45 PM

I sew with socks!

earlylace 02-17-2011 01:46 PM

socks only here!

Jim 02-17-2011 01:49 PM

I rarely wear shoes...ONLY in a "have to" case...if I am sewing at quild...I take my right shoe off...at home..no shoes ever....usually wear sandals when I go out if I CAN

Jaos 02-17-2011 01:50 PM

In socks. Gives me better control of the speed of the machine. Also makes me be more careful of where pins end up!

mrspete 02-17-2011 02:06 PM

I've always been a barefooted kook, but. As I've aged, I have problems with callouses on the tops of my toes where I put my foot behind me at the computer, dinner table and generally at the sewing table. And they are bent so they do not lay flat when standing. My doc says to watch the dry callouses and try to keep them from cracking. So I have to keep something on my feet.............alrighteeeeeeeee now. Saran Wrap works great with softening balm. I just wrap em and keep on living. Happy toes, here!

ann clare 02-17-2011 02:08 PM

I do that too.

CarrieAnne 02-17-2011 02:13 PM

Me too!

justwannaquilt 02-17-2011 02:15 PM

LOL Funny you should ask. Yesterday here in Missouri it was in the mid 70's. I found about six reasons to walk to my car last night, BAREFOOT! I came in and told my husband "its going to be a great spring and summer" I NEVER wear shoes unless there is ice/snow on the ground. If I have to leave the house to go in public I slip a pair of Adidas sandles on.

LOL To answer your question, NO I don't have anything on my feet when I sew.

purplefiend 02-17-2011 02:58 PM

If I'm using my Featherweight or 301 I take my right shoe off so I can find the button on the foot pedal. Even in class!
The only time I sew with shoes on at home is when I am using my treadle machine. :-D

Scrap Happy 02-17-2011 03:30 PM

Socks.

Aurora 02-18-2011 02:29 AM

No shoes and cannot stand to have socks on my feet.
