I no longer have the problem associated with question #1. I keep a large square gift bag (bag large enough to hold quilt) next to me at the sewing machine and all I have to do is turn towards the bag and clip threads. The reason this works is those gift bags have reinforcement that keep them wide open.

In regards to question 2... yes, I'm guilty as charged! When I'm on a quilting/sewing jag I don't want to stop to clean, so I leave things to clean up after I'm finished with the project. I see it as a positive habit because otherwise my sewing room would never get clean!

I bought myself one of those gizmo's that you hang right on your table next to your machine to catch tiny bits of thread you want to toss. As carefully as I try, 9 out of 10 times then end up right beside it on the floor. I mean, how can I miss the darn thing, I can put my hand right in the pocket and then drop it on the floor. :|

Has a messy basement sewing area. My daughter used to work with me but she obsessive/compulsive and says 'it scares her' to go down there. (It looks like her bedroom did as a teenager...now she is a 'neatnik'.) Love her anyway.

I had the same problem after I made one of those. I took a 2-liter bottle and cut off the top so the bottom would sit down in the bag. It makes hitting the bag easier and it also makes emptying it easier -- you just remove the plastic container and dump it in the trash and put the container back into the bag for the next time.

i just pile everything until i am done with a project but force myself to clean before beginnng the next project. It is amazing the amount of pins and threads that collect on the floor.

I have 3 of those "hanging" thread baskets that you keep right next to the sewing machine & when doing embroidery I still have thread over the entire house! I was having tests done the other day in the hospital & DH was with me, had a red thread on him. There was a nurse in there "charting" & I said "ohhhhh you've been with that damn quilter again haven't you?" & you should have saw the nurse look out of the corner of her eyes! Didn't know if she should stay or go!
