I don't really have a favorite style. I find that there are quilts of all types that I absolutely love, while others from the same genres do nothing for me at all.
The variety is part of what makes quilting so interesting. I can appreciate everything from the most utilitarian quilt, made from scraps, to the most intricate art quilt. All bring something worthwhile to the art and have their own purpose for being. |
Nope, everyone likes something different.
So what do you do with all of your scraps? Waste not:want not.
I take care of scraps easily.......don't save anything smaller than I know will work in my scrappy quilts.Since a lot of my HSTs etc are made big & cut down, just have no use for crumbs. That helps so much. No bags/boxes of unused scrap rags taking up space. All quilts are diff as are we,so whatever floats your boat :)
quote/But it is a neat way to get rid of all of the scraps you have. |
I like crumb quilts but would never have the patience to finish one. I don't think you are a snob. It is just your personal preference to not like crumb quilts.
well see, I dont like the ones made with selvedges. I like crumbs and do make them, I dont care for dark, muddy colors either, but a lot of people do. To each his or her own. lol
Nope, we all have our own unique styles. That is what is so great about quilting it is what speaks to you. I love looking at the crumb quilts and the bargellos, but I know I would never be happy working on one.
No it is just your preference.
I have a friend in quilt guild who just cannot make a scrap quilt. Likes those made by others but her mind will not allow her to do "disorganized", non-matching blocks. I love scrap quilts because I (and my mother) never threw away a scrap and these remind me of clothing she or I made and give a warm fuzzy feeling and bring back memories. Our brains all have different wiring which make the world and our quilts so interesting.

I like the 'organized' scrap quilts, either similar color families, or sashed with a single strong color like black, navy or red. I admire the work that goes into the total hodge podge ones, but just not my style.
To each his own! Like abstract art.. There is some odd art out there that sales for millions that I wouldn't give you $5.00 for..Just not my taste..I would rather have a crumb than a star quilt..I just don't like stars quilts at all..but there are some pretty ones out there!!

Katfish, thanks for the link. I would love to snuggle under something like that. I have never made a crumb quilt but I am keeping my scraps and fully intend to. I think there is something satisfying about following in the footsteps of past quilters, a different time when quilting was a economical pass time and a way to give your family comfort when resources were limited.

nope, some just like to use up everything. Its a going green idea, I think. also you dont have to by fabric.
Loving any quilt is a personal choice...maybe that's why there are so many styles! each to his/her own...I can appreciate all kinds of quilts...but that doesn't mean I have the inclination to do any of them. Sane quilts intimidate me!!!! I don't have the organized mind to do all those points and lines! Crazy quilts lets me go free!!!!
It's good that we all do different things so we can share with others. |

You are not a snob. There are patterns and fabrics that all of us do not like and if that makes a snob then I guess we are all snobs.
I love crazy/strip quilts B/C I have freedom to be free!!! I've joined the Pinwheel Project that started Feb. 10th and it's the first time I've tried anything that has to match lots of points - I'm having fun - but don't know if I would do it again. I do like to sash my crazy blocks because I have trouble 'seeing' them when they all run together.
I don't even know what a crumb quilt is...but if it has lots of little pieces...count me out!

NO, I don't like them either.
Repeat after me; I do not like crumb quilts. I vow to not ofend the people that do like crumb quilts. We also will not violate your interests but applaud that we can all live together and appreciate all types of quilts.
We are all just different..we like what we like..
I agree with you I don't particulary care for crumb quilts.
:( |
I'm not much of a crumb fan either but I can appreciate all the work it takes. There are others who can't stand the Sun Bonnet Sue and I think she is a doll, never made one but I like em. I used to never use more than three or four prints in a quilt and now I love scrappy so my taste has changes over the years.
I love them all except the art quilts. They are fabric art and not quilts to me. It is all about personal taste.

here's my crumb quilt...Yup you guessed it it has become a ufo till I finish my others.. But hey Im adding to my 'crumb' stash' Whoo Hoo! http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-67955-1.htm I'm not a fan of scrappy quilts but I have seen some lovely scrappy quilts... I think it depends on the pattern and fabric arrangement. |
I am enjoying doing some crumb blocks. Use up the bits of fabrics I can't throw away! I am having fun, and I do plan on making lots of these, and making quilts for charity. Will add solid colored squares to help it along~ :)
No, not a snob at all. The great thing about quilting is there is something for everyone...I love scrappy, crumby, multi-texture and crazy, but also have an appreciation of traditional and OBW. Bargello's are not my thing, but I do admire any I see here and know what a lot of work goes into them. Beware though, crumbs have a way of drawing you in.

Hey, you don't like crumbs. I like crumbs, but I don't like OBWs all that much.... we each have our likes and dislikes. We can still admire the work and workmanship that went into them even if they don't suit our personal taste.

Heavens no, you can like what you like and dislike what you don't like.
I love to make crumbs cuz I find them to be stress busters and they use up my scrap fabrics. Sometimes I add some interest by fussy cutting a novelty fabric in each block ... I give them to my adult kids to use as beach or park quilts or to keep in the car for cold drives. They aren't pretty quilts by any means. They are utilitarian. I have seen some crumb quilts that turn out prettier than I thought they could or would. Now I will share what I don't like ... may get me bounced too, LOL ... I don't like Gees Bend Quilts .. but I respect that the women made quilts with what they had available and they persevered in making something for their bed or their homes. I also don't like Picasso paintings, LOL. Ok now I'm the snob... ;) |
