YOU are the boss of your own fabric...it's entirely up to you! What freedom to have double the fabric to work with, so to speak, huh? Be brave!

I use the backs of fabrics alot. Especially when I want a lighter tone for contrast in a quilt.

When I took it up to be cut I opened it up from the bolt and the backside of it was the white on white and I loved it but it is THE BACK SIDE of the material! My question is would it be wrong to use the back side as the front? I really like it so much better that the front. I really need help on this.

I just use whatever side I like the best. Several times I've gotten home with a chunk of sale fabric that I bought because it was cheap and I could use it up. Then looked at the flip side, fell in love, and gone back for more LOL.
Have fun, there is no wrong side. Just what Michele says about the Quilt Police........ |
Its yours....do whatever you like with it and don't feel the need to "explain" to anyone!

I even took a class about tone on tones- there are NO rules. when the back looks as good as the front-use it-all are right, you paid for both sides

you can use it any way you want - sometimes the back is great for certain effects
|
use the side you like the best. You only have to choose which makes you the happiest. Dare to be different

Tadpole,
I made a mostly plaid quilt and couldn't find a suitably light plaid for my background. I ended up using the wrong side of a red and white printed plaid and it works great and nobody knows unless I tell them. Here's the link to it. http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/...45965719jyLhbF Sharon W. |
I still have some of my late husband's shirts he got in
Hawaii, and he loved the ones that had been made deliberately with the back side on top. And these weren't cheap ones either!! Lovely, with gorgeous muted tones. i'll get around to cutting into them some day. Still have not found any like them in thrift stores or yard sales, or even in regular stores. Probably have to go back to the islands for more, if they even have them after about 35 years! |
