Amazon fabric

Has anyone ever ordered fabric from Amazon? Is it good quality fabric and how does it come delivered....that is does it come packaged good or haphazardly?

Never ordered from Amazon. Probably shipped from some other sub company?? Can't see fabrics working in their warehouses.

KalamaQuilts 06-08-2014 06:00 AM

can you give us a sample link?
I'm guessing it is from various amazon merchants, not Amazon itself. Anyone can sell anything on Amazon, working out of their spare bedroom
Even I am a Amazon merchant. Just not fabric.

nativetexan 06-08-2014 06:07 AM

Amazon has many, many merchants selling things. It all depends on who you buy it from.

QuiltnNan 06-08-2014 06:08 AM

the ones that i found on amazon are sold by fabric.com

DebraK 06-08-2014 06:17 AM

They are just a middle man. Read closely to see where the fabric originates.

PaperPrincess 06-08-2014 06:34 AM

The seller doesn't really affect the quality of the fabric it's the MANUFACTURER so I only buy fabric made by mills I'm familiar with.

I forgot to answer this part of your question. I've been an Amazon customer for many years. Packaging varies, but i have never had a problem with customer service in either replacing my order or refunding my money. My experience with their customer service has been very satisfactory.

MargaretH 06-08-2014 06:58 AM

I have made many purchases through Amazon and have never been disappointed. Packaging has always been very good. Amazon purchased fabric.com several years ago.

QuiltnNan 06-08-2014 07:06 AM

i generally have a great buying experience with amazon and it's 3rd party vendors. however, i'd bought a butter dish that was on a friend's registry [otherwise, would have purchased locally]. it arrived broken and the vendor was not totally cooperative. i eventually went to amazon customer service and they resolved it with a free replacement and a refund of the original purchase... so free was great!

I buy fabric from Amazon all the time. Some of it comes directly from the Amazon warehouse (Kona fat quarter bundles, for instance). It's in a plastic bag then put into the mailing box. When the fabric comes from one of the outside vendors, it's always in a plastic bag inside the mailing envelope. I've had mixed mailing experiences from some Ebay vendors. I've gotten fabric from some Ebay vendors that aren't put into plastic first.

You need to look at the main page of the listing, as right under the name of the item will be listed who is selling it. Different sellers offer different levels of quality of service. Whenever possible, I try to buy items that are both *sold* by Amazon and *shipped* by Amazon. It makes returns really easy. If Amazon is not the seller, then I check the seller's feedback before deciding whether to purchase.

Also, I believe Amazon bought fabric.com some time ago. One of the QB posters mentioned seeing the same fabric on both sites. Since fabric.com offers free shipping with orders of $35 or more, it's always a good idea to check Amazon fabric against fabric.com . I usually also check eBay and bugfabric.com (they carry a lot of older lines of fabric).

DebraK 06-08-2014 09:46 AM

bugfabric.com has lots of great fabric choices that you don't don't see anymore, and at good prices.

not affiliated, just an observation ;-)

I love Amazon.. I have purchased fabric from them and have never had any problems. But to echo what others have said.. they are more of a middle man. That is actually how I found Fabric.com. I saw some fabric on Amazon that was sold by Fabric.com. Now I just look at Fabric.com first. But I have purchased other fabric and never had problems

I bought some ant fabric from fabric.com through Amazon. I later found the same fabric at my favourite local quilt store - same quality, great fabric. I wouldn't hesitate buying from fabric.com again.

Mitch's mom 06-08-2014 11:40 AM

I bought some fabric that came from Fabric.com. The amazon transaction was fine but I was a bit disappointed with the packaging. The fabric had to be sent on a roll. Because of carelessness the one end of the fabric was crushed inside the shipping container. It was laminated fabric and it was for a rush job. I had no time to return it so I made the best of it.

Quiltngolfer 06-08-2014 11:58 AM

I heard a while back that Amazon bought Fabric.com. Not sure if it's true, but I think it is.

Donna P 06-08-2014 01:14 PM

Thank you for all your input....I know Amazon is just a go between but was just wondering if you did buy any through there site if it come a good quality and packaged good. I have bought from Fabric.co and rom Marshalls dry goods and have never been disappointed. You have answered my question thank you ever so much.

Are the prices the same?

quilts4charity 06-08-2014 02:56 PM

I have, I order a lot from Amazon, everyone is right, it comes from Fabric.com and I've never had a problem with anything I order from amazon.

lclang 06-09-2014 03:55 AM

I have purchased a lot of items from Amazon and never had any lasting problems. I did get a Kindle that wouldn['t boot up and when I called they did their best to help me and when that failed they put a new on in the mail the same day and overnighted it to me, which I thought was wonderful customer service. I got an iron, lots of sewing items, books, a tool for my husband, and all were well worth the money. I have not ordered fabric though.

Wanabee Quiltin 06-09-2014 05:15 AM

I ordered some a couple of times, but each time it came from a different vendor. Both times it was packaged very good.

nanac 06-09-2014 06:06 AM

AMAZON bought out Fabric.Com, so that's where their fabric comes from. I have purchased fabric from them several times, and have never been disappointed. Many times, I have needed fabric on short notice, and the LQS says it will take 2-4 weeks to get that fabric in, again, but with Amazon, I have never had to wait more than a week.

Roberta 06-09-2014 07:40 AM

I bought the backing for my very first quilt from Amazon. I had searched the local stores and just couldn't find anything that would work. I held my breath and hit the "buy" button and the material was beautiful.

Carol34446 06-09-2014 08:00 AM

I have bought from Amazon and E-Bay and never had a problem.

celwood 06-09-2014 09:41 AM

I heard that Amazon purchased Fabric.com. I don't know if it is true or not

puzzler 06-09-2014 11:50 AM

The info I found on the internet says the purchase of fabric.com by Amazon happened in 2008. Amazing that so many of us never knew.

Sew_Silly 06-09-2014 12:20 PM

I just bought some 2 yards of muslin by Crafty Cuts for $5.98 total. Says shipped by and sold by Amazon if you look it up on Amazon search. Haven't done a search to see if Amazon sells other fabrics, but there are quite a few other merchants that do :)

RipStitcher 06-09-2014 12:21 PM

I went driving around (my own little shop-hop!) back in January or so - on the hunt for fabrics for The Gypsy Wife quilt pattern - I was looking for "S'more Love" by Moda. It had come out in August (goofy time to come out with summer/camping line, IMO) ... but nobody had stocked it to begin with - much less have any of it left. Bummer!

Seems nobody else thought it was as cute as I think it is... so I'm the lone goof that wanted it for a quilt for my hope chest for my next camper!

I'm grateful I could run around the internet and find all of the parts I wanted. I bought a fat quarter bundle from Amazon, some yardage from Fabric.com... and I scored 2 yards of a border print for this line from a seller on Etsy.

Overall, I've had great experiences buying online.

I still prefer to hit the LQSs often enough to catch an entire line if it turns me on. :)

Momo 06-09-2014 02:31 PM

I frequently buy fabric from fabric.com. They ship fast and it's great quality. I recommend them.

Marysewfun 06-09-2014 04:34 PM

I haven't tried fabric from Amazon yet - but they are my go-to place to search most stuff out before I buy anywhere else. I like to know their clout (backing) is there if something goes wrong. And at first we weren't sure about the "prime" for shipping but have found it quite worth while. (Not affiliated - just a happy camper!) :-)

Gee-------where have I been? I order a lot of stuff from Amazon, but I never thought about looking for fabric! Thanks for the info.

nannyrick 06-09-2014 04:49 PM

I have purchased from Amazon and it comes from other merchants who deal in fabrics.
I have been satisfied.

Alondra 06-09-2014 04:57 PM

If I'm not mistaken, Amazon now owns fabric.com. I'd be hesitant to buy anything that wasn't described thoroughly.

Mrs Mike 06-09-2014 06:57 PM

I have bought from fabric.com several times and have been pleased with the fabric.

margecam52 06-09-2014 07:12 PM

If the fabric is from Fabric.com.... I'd go to Fabric . com website and order there...probably save a little. They have nice fabrics...several of the folks I quilt for use them...and the fabric is nice.

Just looking to order some fabric from Amazon and clicked on a link in the description. This is the message that popped up:

I've bought fabric from amazon and ebay, both sent me very nice quality fabric

Bubbie 06-10-2014 05:04 AM

Amazon sells for a LOT of company's (I work for a SMALL company & they sell some of our stuff). With that said, Amazon offers special shipping (Prime). The company I work for has shipping charges, but Amazon will bundle things from a number of company's and you pay little or no shipping. This is some thing special for Amazon customers (we don't sell on Amazon, but we do ship direct to Amazon and they sell), hope this helped a little with your question.

Sew_Silly 06-10-2014 09:34 AM

If only all merchants would join the FBA program! I don't know how many time I've ordered various items from Amazon to find that even though I had well over $35 to qualify for free shipping, I had shipping charges on other items in my cart sold by other merchants. In fact most amazon merchants I've come across charge shipping and being so far from civilization I shop alot:shock:.
