Using solid colors must have gone by the wayside or a regional thing because the quilts at auction were all made of colorful prints. Very detailed work. Hand quilted.

The fabric used depends on location. Some Amish use print fabrics in quilts.

Quilters wash finished quilts to remove the sizing on the material and washing the quilt adds to the look of the stitches.

My husband and I have traveled to Ohio to an Amish area on occasion and have attended their auctions. We came home with 3 king sized quilts. Two are Trip around the world- lone star. They don't appear to be washed. Question: Why do quilters wash quilts as soon as they are finished new material? I have never have. Just asking.
