Another binding question
 

I just read today here on the board that if you do scalloped edges you must cut the binding on the bias - why??!!
i have already cut and sewn the binding together (not to the quilt) - can I still use it or should I not do scalloped edges?

bias edges curve smoothly around the scallops, a straight binding will not curve nicely- you will struggle trying to get smooth curves/edges , anytime curves are involved you really need bias cuts to have smooth curves

what will it look like if you use straight? well, the edges will curl under or up. you won't be happy with the results. i'd save the straight binding for another quilt.

Having done a couple of quilts with scalloped edge, the bias is a necessary thing to go on the curves, looks nice, too!

Think of how the squares should be cut with 'straight edges' on the outside and not bias.

I agree bias binding. Hope you have more fabric.

unless you use bias you will not be happy with the way it lays.

Is the binding that you've already sewn up a straight strip, or is it too shaped into scallops?

If the binding is a straight strip and the scallops on your quilt are narrow and/or deep, you might want to recut the binding as bias.

If the binding is a straight strip and the scallops on your quilt are wide and shallow, say 6" wide and less than 1" deep, you should be able to get away with the straight strip. You'll have to ease it a little to get it to lay flat but should still look good when finished.
