Thanks to Ann Peterson's quilting class on Craftsy, she shared how she uses pieces from the grip shelf liners. I started using this and love it.

I don't do machine quilting. But it seems anykind of spong with maybe the loopy side of self adhesive velcro would work too. Just a thought.

thanks for the tip!

I also cut the tips of the fingers out of one glove and then can do most things with them left on and doesn't seem to impede machine quilting.

thanks so much, always looking for ways to save money. I will try this for sure.

you could also use the rubberized shelf liner, just cute 2 pieces to fit the size of your hands and lay them on your quilt vola!

I got some gloves with rubber bumps on them I think from the dollar store. At the time, I was thinking of them to pet the cats and help remove some excess fur. They work for that, and for pushing a quilt around in your machine.

Just be careful. I got going all "in the zone" and promptly sewed the edge of the shelf liner to my quilt. I love the idea of the erasers or the sponges, because it will be hard to do that, or catch a finger with everything raised. Easier for little ones to learn safely too.

How does anyone know items work just the same without comparison? I would have to test the quilting pads first to know how the sponges or erasers compare and then decide about the price difference. I have sprayed basting spray on batting squares to use to move my quilt top while fmq.

I've used both and there was very little difference. The ones I got at the quilt store weren't $30 though, only about $7 or 8 several years ago.
