Just curious if there are any husband/wife quilting families out there. As I posted on my intro page I learned to quilt from my DW on a dare from my Pastor. I'd be interested in hearing about any other family combinations that we might have.

Besides enjoying the creative side of quilting, it really give Janice and I a whole bunch of time with each other quilting, shopping, creating and me pestering her ;-)

What's your story??

DJ & I are both artists and each have an art studio in our home (well i have 2, 1 for sewing and 1 for dying and painting).

while we do not use the same artistic medium in our art we are the biggest influence in each others work and are routinely asked for input in each others projects.

we have been have each others Muse for 19 years.

I think that is so great for all of you. My dear husband is good at pestering me when I sew. He will play with water colors with me but has yet to jump in. Its a thought however, if I could get him to accurately cut pieces.. hum... wouldnt that be lovely? I might have to find a way to get him to participate. I think he wouldnt mind a hobby.

I have been married to Bill this April 7th 2010 for 49 yrs. I love him Dearly, He is my sole mate. But not under any circumstances do I want to have him in my quilting room as a partner, helper ETC. We do things together, garden, can, yard care. He has his jobs and I have mine we help each other.. He has his work shop a lot bigger than my sewing room. Saws of all kinds ETC. I do not bother him that is his space. The sewing room is my space. He really doesn't have an interest in sewing but does love what I do. Brings me my coffee about 3:00 pm if I am in there. sometimes if he is bored like when it now it is cold he will come in and out of the sewing room a few times.
I found out years ago that if we are doing something together He likes it to be his way! HMMMM!!!! A mighty lot of discusion that got sometimes more than a little hot. LOL! We just learned to help each other and stay out of each others way at the same time. So the ans. for me is NO!!!! I don't want him to ever share my sewing room. Now if the urge ever hits him to do sewing, which I doubt. He can have the guest room.   We are retired and have 24 hr days 7 days a week with each other. To those you can I am very happy for you. :-D :-D

I am PapaJohn's DW...the one who started this arrangement by agreeing to teach him to quilt. We do pretty well sharing the sewing room. It's big enough for two machines on tables, our large work table, and the quilting machine on frame. Plus other assorted items. Anyway, there's plenty of room, so we can both work in there together, as long as we are courteous about sharing the work table...sometimes I have to pick up his stuff and move it....sometimes right on top of him!! ;-) If he leaves a mess, I remind him that we are sharing space. After all, this was my room first...he still has his garage and his "blue room" (den), so, my rules go here!!! We do enjoy having the time together, tho', cause we both work full time. And we don't generally argue....too much!! ;)

I'm working on teaching the boyfriend. He likes using the rotary cutter (after I attach binding, he throws a fit if I don't let him trim off the excess backing). He also lays out the blocks and picks out fabrics - great eye for color. He said he's interested in learning to make a block :D :D

My boyfriend and I share a love for fishing, camping, etc. As a matter of fact, we each own our own boats. He has taught me so much more than I already knew when I met him about fishing, cleaning/preparing/cooking the fish, maintaining the boats. But he has a way about him that he makes it fun to learn. Fishing for us is more of a lifestyle than hobby.

My hobby is sewing/quilting. He does not share the same interest in fabrics as I do. Yet he is very supportive. When we have been out of town on major fishing trips he has even made sure we go to the local fabric shops.

He will wash, dry, iron, etc. fabrics to help me with my projects. He helps to load/unload my truck when I am heading to a quilting class. He has set up a large area for me to do my sewing. If I want something changed around he never complains about it. He will also come up with ideas to make things more organized for me. He supports my hobby in everyway that he can.

We share so much in other areas of our lives together. For example, we have been taking water aerobics classes together for over 3 years now. When I asked him to do this initially I was shocked that he was interested. I guess it goes to show you never know what kind of answer you may get until you ask the question.

I have teased him about learning to sew. He reminds me that when things need to be hand sewn, especially large projects, he is the one that usually does that. I think he may be afraid to damage a sewing machine or something. LOL

We are planning on doing a large, heavy duty sewing project together here in the next 6-8 weeks. We need to make new replacement seat cushions for his boat. We have already purchased a used industrial machine for sewing leather/vinyl had it tuned up, bought the marine grade vinyl, searched for marine grade foam. We will see how this project works out for us to do together.

I am thinking he is a keeper for sure. LOL

I do not want my DH to quilt or shop with me. I need my time alone. We like to travel so that is our together time. We have been married forever so it works for us.

I would love it if my husband were to join me. He does not like to go fabric shopping, but will upon occasion. He is very good at matching colors/patterns of fabric/etc. I would want him to work on his own quilts and let me work on mine - I'd share my space with him - in a heartbeat.
