how lucky to find a treasure like that. Please show us when you're done quilting it. how big is it?

AngeliaNR 07-08-2015 02:35 PM

It's about 60" x 72"--thanks for the help, everyone!

What a great find. Hope you are able to finish the quilt. Be sure to check that the safety pins have rusted. I say it looks like original 30s print.

I put the pins in only a few days ago, but I'll keep an eye on them. Thanks for the reminder.

Feed sacks, I would say, for most if not all. Could be 30's-40's era.

I would guess 30's and 40's also. The double wedding ring pattern became extremely popular in the 1930's. It is possible that someone's scrap bag contained fabrics that covered more than one decade. It is wonderful that you are finishing the quilt!

i thought the same when i first looked at this post this morning. 20' & 30's & definitely see some feedsacks in prints i have in my collection. poly's & polyblends were used in those years also. the ailky feeling fabrics. that green was also used in earlier years before 50's ...i have it in my grandmothers quilts from 40's & earlier. i went to live w her in '52. she was no longer quilting because of arthritis.

i also agree ..what a treasure!

I think some are feed sack material; I wore dresses made of that material.

I believe that these fabrics date from the 50s and 60s. I recognize many of them from my early sewing days and my grandmas aprons and dresses

I have some quilts that my grandmother made in the 1930's and I'm sure that some of the same fabrics are in those quilts as are in this one so my guess is 1930's.
