Any suggestions are appreciated
 

I'm making a wedding quilt for my DGS and his new bride. They picked this quilt pattern but want their quilt to be lighter in color so I'm making the quilt with lighter batiks in the middle and the darker batiks on the outer points of the stars. The next layers will be lighter triangles and squares. After that, I'll do the dark points and outer border to square it all up just like the picture shows. The pattern is An Unusual Lone Star by Karen Stone and will be 62" x 62".

So that's the problem. I need to add to the pattern to make a quilt large enough for a queen bed. Do any of you have any suggestions about how you might do that?

I have all the 128 blocks done for the lone star and have lined things up on the kitchen floor. The second picture is how the lone star will look.

Your color combination is lovely -

That's going to be beautiful. I would enlarge it with borders. I've seen so many very pretty quilts that have numerous borders around them which accent the center block. I don't know if there is a certain name for that (quilts with lots of borders) but they make striking quilts).

Medallion quilts. If you search "medallion quilts" on Pinterest or Google images, you will get a lot of great ideas for adding multiple borders.

I looked up "lone star quilt" images in google to see how different people finished theirs. There were a number of different suggestions but I really liked the simplicity of taking your square lone star, turning it on point and adding rows of borders as seen in Annie's Quilt link here: https://www.anniesquiltingden.com/lone-star.

How to change a square into a rectangle is always a challenge. I agree to look at Medallion quilts or even just "lone star quilt settings".

One of the techniques I've used is for bands of three top and bottom, and then just the center on the sides, if that makes sense. Because of the layout of the lone star, often three smaller stars are put in the middle/in bars to lengthen.

I made one of those quilts years ago- it took me years to quilt it- after piecing it. I’ve told myself I will make another one some day- someday hasn’t happened- yours inspires me though. 🤗

That's going to be lovely! you could always add extra layers of diamonds to make the star larger. I try to avoid adding borders just for the sake of sizing. it should be more of a design choice. perhaps you could make smaller stars to put as cornerstones for an outer "border" where the actual border fabric is the same as the background fabric, so it flows in together well. Can't wait to see it when you are done!

You could make the star larger by adding more light colored diamonds to the centre.
