I have Gremlins all over this house. The worst one is the sock Gremlin. He eats one of every pair of socks we have. We have another one that eats bills and homework papers, and one who eats all of the office supplies I buy.....

butterflyquilter 09-14-2010 03:30 AM

Mine isn't a gremlin--it is our resident ghost named Mark! (We get mail for someone named Mark with our last name and the post office has no idea who he is). So we blame Mark for EVERYTHING!!!! He's been around for over 10 years now.

mimiknoxtaylor 09-14-2010 03:50 AM

Got em'! I too thought it was kids but only have the 21yo home & he's a policeman so it better not be him! Like many others I have some things in multiples because of that. Just finished quilting my Lil' Twister table runner, turned to grab the binding and lo and behold-GONE. It's been 2 days & still haven't found it. I'll wait a couple more days then hit the stash

CarrieAnne 09-14-2010 03:55 AM

Yep....and LOTS of pairs of scissors here too!

TX GMimi 09-14-2010 04:03 AM

Never! I may be "older" but "elderly"??? No Way!!!! :-D :-D

steelecg 09-14-2010 04:17 AM

I totally do have an army of Gremlins - I think I could cut my sewing time in half and get a million things done if it weren't for them.

mar32428 09-14-2010 04:22 AM

Gosh, I kept putting it off to old age. If I were a little bit more organized?????????

Roxanne 09-14-2010 04:23 AM

He's got my 2" square ruler! It was just here last night, now it's gone.

quiltmom04 09-14-2010 04:30 AM

Oh my yes! I don't know whether I'm losing my sight or my mind. A friend of mine had a funny little poem (prayer, maybe, since it has a saint's name in it) that he told me - to say when you can't find something. Helps pass the time as you look for your missing object. "St. Joseph, St. Joseph, please come around! Help me find something that can not be found"! It's funny, but after a couple times of saying this and looking, I generally find it!

I'm going to have to cut most of it with sissors, and maybe he

That's my story and I'm keeping it!!

And I'm going to adopt a ghost, too. That's a lot better than claiming Alzheimers  Now to come up with a great name. Thanks for your story.

sewlady 09-14-2010 04:54 AM

I love this discussion of gremlins. I have always declared that I have gremlins. I can identify with many of you. I lose a sewing item and when I finally go and buy a replacement, it shows up. I also something away where I will know where it is and when I go to get it, it is not there. We could get a lot more done with out the gremlins in our lives.

Woodster 09-14-2010 05:05 AM

Isn't it nice to know we all have company? I was looking through my patterns over the weekend - must have REALLY liked the Grommet bag pattern - have two brand new ones of the same patterns. Hmmm - classifieds?

I looked EVERYWHERE for two kits to take on an upcoming trip. Think I could find them? Nope. Got up the next morning and they were right there in a top cubby sitting all nice and perky - smirking!

angelarose 09-14-2010 05:08 AM

I don't do as many projects as I think some of you do, so I put tools back in their place before I leave the room. BUT, I misplace the tools AS I'm using them!!
FYI: the scissor holder that I can attach to my shirt isn't worth the $. The elastic is new and I have to pull hard on it to pull the cuticle scissor to where I want to cut..then the scissor can easily SNAP back up to my chest like a little flying weapon!
The other day I went to 3 different stores..v. busy stores. Then I went to them again, retracing my footsteps because I had lost my Master Shopping/Organization list for a trip I'm taking. I eventually found my special list the third time I went into one of the stores.
Gremlins in my sewing area/room???? Nah, just in my brain!

Deb watkins 09-14-2010 05:10 AM

Yep, they are fond of my small snip scissors, my seam ripper and my little 1x6" ruler.

Dodee 09-14-2010 05:23 AM

You mean - I may not be nuts. My husband just asked me the other day "What are you going to do with all these scissors"? Hmmm. The last thing I lost was my dresden plate template. Ended up buying a new one at Little Blessings Quilt Store in another town. I learned a hard lesson - prices have really gone up on items that George walks away with. Ramona Byrd's George, the gremlin, really does get around. Comes all the way from California to Tenn.
This Quilting Board, by the way, is fantastic. Terrific people who really do help out.

KayT 09-14-2010 05:28 AM

Sounds like my husband with his tools. lolol

lillybeck 09-14-2010 05:38 AM

I too have gremlins or soething here. I used to blame y kids for never having a pen by the phone or leaving things where they were supposed to be but, I think they must have left their little spirits behind so that I would not miss them so much.

sandpat 09-14-2010 05:46 AM

Is that what they are called??  And here I was blaming the cat..

Dodee 09-14-2010 05:48 AM

Maybe George is a cat. Ha

bsktkeeper 09-14-2010 07:23 AM

I think I have a pack of them . I can't for the life of me find the manuals for my sewing machines. Even the new one I got last week. Maybe my daughter will find them after I'm gone. Sure do need them at times and don't know how to replace them.

sjhughson 09-14-2010 07:35 AM

We have three cats and two of them are thieves. We always blame the cats when something goes missing. That prayer is another way to bring the missing to the front of your mind. Freud said to go off by yourself and say whatever comes to mind - no censoring ergo do this alone. I have found w/i 1-2 min. you will say where you left the item. Works for me except when DH is the culprit.

3TreeFrog 09-14-2010 07:40 AM

Yes I have Gremlins! I tend to call them my left and right hand! At times, I wonder if my left hand knows what my right hand is doing!

Yep, we have that type of Gremlin here as well. I've seen him several times actually but he had better stay out of my quilting room

JudeWill 09-14-2010 08:16 AM

I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one. Some days I think I am losing my mind--other days, I know I am!

akatammie 09-14-2010 08:30 AM

I remember visiting my grandmother in the years before she passed, and she was always either quilting or crocheting. Invariably she was always looking for her scissors everywhere, and we always found them hiding under her butt. The morning she passed I asked my mom, "where are Mamaw's scissors?" I went to the funeral home and placed her thimble on her finger, where it always was even if she wasnt sewing, and her scissors right where she always lost them, under her butt. All the family had to ask the story of why the scissors were there, and the laughs we all got helped to make the passing of such an incredible woman just a little easier. Love you Mamaw, I miss you so.

borntoquilt 09-14-2010 08:38 AM

YEP! Got one here too! I "lost" my marking pen the other day, so, I bought new one. I used the new one, JUST put it down, then I couldn't find it. grrrrrr....... I looked everywhere for abt half an hour. Dern! This is cutting into "quilting time" now! I'm getting angry! I found it !! The pen had ROLLED off the ironing board all by itself and then HID under a receipt on the sewing table. How the heck did THAT happen???? I HAD a poltergiest in my deshtop computer until I drove a NAIL into his hard drive... THAT sure fixed HIM.....heh heh heh

np3 09-14-2010 08:39 AM

We have a little girl, call her Mary Jane. When ever anything goes wrong the kids say "Mary Jane did it!" The kids are gone but Mary Jane stayed....

Yep, I have a gremlin. Her name is Mrs. Johnson. She used to hang out at the office where I worked but when I retired she came home with me. She used to get my kids in trouble a lot but now I know it was her since my kids are accross the country and things are still going missing. She expecially likes my glasses, and I have dozens in every room, but she still manages to hide every one, sometimes on top of my head. When she hides things I just start doing something else and she relents and gives me back what I need. Glad I'm not alone on this one, don't want people to think I'm crazy.

Absolutely! All the time! And do I feel stupid when I finally find the item and it has been there under my nose all the time.

huntannette 09-14-2010 10:04 AM

Dog drn it...thought I was the only one who had em!! LOL

Tink's Mom 09-14-2010 10:30 AM

Yes, the gremlin walked off with my Gingher scissors on Sunday. It's Tuesday afternoon and I still can't find them. :( I'd blame Tinkerbelle if she could lift them....so I guess that it's the Gremlins...

There are spooks in every area of my house, not only in my
sewing room. They love to hid my make-up, combs, kitchen utensils, slippers, purses, shoes, etc.,etc., etc.

majormom 09-14-2010 12:13 PM

Emma S you are funny

Magdalena 09-14-2010 12:18 PM

I can hear the gremlins laughing when they see me losing my mind. One minute it's there, the next it's gone. Then, it appears again. Well, at least they are entertained.

TX GMimi 09-14-2010 12:28 PM

In a pinch, you might be able to find the manuals on the Internet. Not as good as holding it in your hands....

ptquilts 09-14-2010 12:28 PM

I have a ghost named Emily who loves bright things. (and it is only a 20 year old house and we built it).
Came home from being away one time and there was a ball of bright orange yarn on the sewing room floor. I thought maybe I had left it on a shelf and it fell, but it was a good six feet away from the shelves, and there is a rug. Can't see it rolling that far. Then I found the rest of the yarn it had been with, had left it in a drawer.
Just today she left a line of 5 bright red hawthorns in the driveway for me - there are no hawthorn trees within 200 feet.
She is mostly good though, doesn't hide things. Sometimes I can feel someone touching the top of my head, think it is her.

purplefiend 09-14-2010 12:36 PM

I still can't find my 60mm cutter, I could really use it.
My DD uses my stuff and she doesn't always put things back when she's done. So I can blame some of the lost items on her.

newquilter2009 09-14-2010 02:08 PM

They arent just in the sewing room. I have a terrible infestation here. It's amazing how things can disappear and then magically reappear somewhere that they never should have been....lol.

Annz 09-14-2010 02:34 PM

Oh I'm so glad to hear that someone else has this problem. I thought they were walking off on their own and returning on their own. Not the quilters fault. :P

diane Sneed 09-14-2010 03:07 PM

I bought some rotary cutting blades[ Harbor Freight] and I was soooo excited about my big bargain[$1.49 a pair] that I put them up so only I would know where to locate them and guess what? I gotta go buy more. I sometimes scare myself!
