in their quilt room/area???

I can spend a lot of time looking for scissors, my fabric marking pen, a ruler, etc., and never find it. After I give up and make do with something else and continue on (struggling), the lost item never shows up.

The next day I can walk in and TA DA -- there is the item in plain site!!!! I swear I have Gremlins who hide things and then return them the next day. Any one else have this problem?

mom-6 09-11-2010 07:25 PM

Yes, for sure! I used to think it was my kids, but they've all moved out...

amma 09-11-2010 07:25 PM

Yep...and they are named Me, Myself and I LOL

tlrnhi 09-11-2010 07:29 PM

Yep, I gottem! Can't find my cutter, so had to go and buy a new one. :( But, I did buy some fabric too :)

Ramona Byrd 09-11-2010 07:30 PM

Yes, I have live-in Gremlins myself. I have a live-in ghost,
i call him George, who moves things around when I forget
about him. Even my cats sometimes walk around in circles,
rubbing the legs of someone who is just barely here.
Last week George took my rotary cutter and cutting pad from
where I had put it, right after using it. After I'd ironed the backing to the fabric, marked and cut it out, started looking for it where I knew I'd put it for safe keeping, but I still haven't found it to cut the square backing for the applique figures.

I'm going to have to cut most of it with sissors, and maybe he
will see how angry I am and put it out in plain sight.

That's my story and I'm keeping it!!

akgranny 09-11-2010 07:31 PM

sigh ....... i thought i was just having senior moments but they're too frequent -- am i passing from older to elderly?

Ladybugnana 09-11-2010 07:37 PM

Absolutely! I had just bought a new seam ripper that had a bigger handle because my hands are beginning to hurt. Turned around to use it and it has vanished. I thought it was the cats or Zach, but not in any of their hiding places. I have yet to find it!

Candace 09-11-2010 07:39 PM

I completely commiserate. I know I'm losing brain cells as I age. I'm losing my stuff, faster than I'm losing my brain cells.

BellaBoo 09-11-2010 07:43 PM

That's why I have many many of the same items. Rotary cutters, scissors, seam rippers, and snips. I quit looking for items, I just grab another one and buy more when I see a clearance sale.

sharon b 09-11-2010 07:56 PM

Yep , that is why I have so many extras and my kids ask why  LOL I told them if they left my stuff alone I wouldn't need so many .. of course the one doesn't even live here anymore  LOL

Quiltforme 09-11-2010 08:05 PM

Yes and he is 4 and all I have to say is where is... and the little gremlin will pop up and find exactly what I am missing :)

cjomomma 09-11-2010 08:07 PM

I totally have them. My favorite rotary cutter is missing. It vanished while I was using it. I layed it down and it was gone. I didn't even leave the area so I know no one took it. lol. I am begining to think I am losing my mind.

My seam rippers keep vanishing so I thought I would buy one of those big handled ones so I wouldn't lose it. After reading your post I guess that idea won't work!

tcnmom 09-11-2010 08:30 PM

I know I have Gremlins because I lost my mind a long time ago. Last year, I cut out a pair of slippers. Made one and turned around to start the second one, and it was gone and has never appeared. Most have been a one legged Gremlin that took it.

SaraSewing 09-11-2010 08:31 PM

I have gremlins, ghosts, goblins and fairies. I loose things too. They love to hide a quilt piece. I cut a new one, then by dang, it's there the next day. If they would only clean too. . .

I solved the seam ripper problem a long time ago: I have the cap taped to my sewing machine (on the side) with the opening up. I store the seam ripper on the sewing machine when not in use! Now I am working on putting the seam ripper back in the cap EVERY time I use it! Gremlins can't pull the seam ripper off the sewing machine, evidently. LOL

moonrise 09-11-2010 09:11 PM

I can tell you a sure-fire way to find something that's gone missing. It works every time, guaranteed.

All you have to do is buy a new one.

The old one will reappear, just like magic!

I hear you! Tonight I was cooking pudding on the stove, stiring with a wire wisk. I had to go to the livingroom for a minute and when I got back to the pudding the wisk had disapeared. I got another wisk out of the drawer, I still haven't found the sticky (pudding) wisk I was using.

amandasgramma 09-11-2010 09:30 PM

Oh, yeah...but I blame the cats!!! Not too long ago, I picked up the magazine/pattern book and had forgotten I'd left my seam ripper on it. Well, it went flying. I looked, looked, cleaned, looked and couldn't find it. A month later, I went to the shelving and got out stuff to give my daughter. There was a box on the bottom shelf, and guess what I found....yip, the seam ripper. Those darn cats are hiding thing from me!!!!

katesnanna 09-12-2010 04:44 AM

I'm so glad to find I'm not on my own. I usually do find things but, I lost a bottle of craft glue which I haven't found, despite buying a glue gun and completely cleaning and rearranging all my quilting & embroidery stuff.
Guess the gremlins really got that.

Stitchnripper 09-12-2010 04:57 AM

Oh yes indeed. I have several sets of everything and amazing how they disappear and then turn up again in unexpected places.

sueisallaboutquilts 09-12-2010 05:08 AM

I wonder if the Gremlin is like Santa Claus visiting each house or if there are a bunch of them b/c I sure have one too :D

humbird 09-12-2010 05:24 AM

I often have a gremlin (or something) hide things from me. If it is the telephone,(which happens often) all I need to do is call the # on my cell, and the ring will at least lead me in the right direction....but the real mystery was my lost coffee cup. The onery little guy hid it in the linen closet...........behind a pile of sheets I had washed and folded the week before. Oh yeah, I have Gremlins!!

KathyAire 09-12-2010 06:17 AM

I lose things all the time. I hate wasting time looking for something. After searching forever to find something, I call my little friend Karsyn, who lives next to me. She will come over and find it in three minutes. I love that kid.
I have, and I'm not lying, about 12 pairs of glasses in my sewing room alone. More all around the house and I still have to look for them. I buy the glasses at the dollar store every time I go.

SHayes 09-12-2010 07:00 AM

I had lost a pincushion near the chair where I sew. I assumed it had fallen in the garbage can and was long gone. After about 2 weeks, it suddenly reappeared exactly where I had been looking for it... yep I have gremlins too!

MommaDorian 09-12-2010 07:20 AM

Yes, I have them too. My Gremlins are named Miles, Marcus, & Mackenzie. lol I've lost so many things, mostly scissors, that I keep them in a tub and strictly ban them from using them. They seem to think it's ok to use them when I have them out though. I absolutely refuse to let them use my fabric scissors on paper!!!

bearisgray 09-12-2010 07:21 AM

Everyone blames me because I tend to be a bit messy.

But it's not always ME that misplaces things.

Twisted Quilter 09-12-2010 07:34 AM

I HAVE GREMLINS! I found my scissors in my purse. Okay, I confess I forgot I had put them in there. At least an hour of cutting time lost.

wesing 09-12-2010 10:26 AM

No gremlins at our house, but do you remember the flying monkeys from the Wizard of Oz? Yep, they live here. Even the cats are scared of them. We never knew our house had so many hiding places before the monkeys got here.

I have been losing a pair of jeans in the house. NO it is not that messy in my house and there are only certain places they could be. Pat swears he has no idea - I'm pretty sure the cat didn't shlepp them off - so that leaves Gremlins. If you are a Harry Potter fan, I'd go with Nargles - they also misplace things.

Ditter43 09-12-2010 10:37 AM

Didn't you know about the quilters gremlins? They have caused problems for us all at one time or another. I think mine like to hide with the dust bunnies!

seamstome 09-12-2010 10:43 AM

I could not find my credit cards, cash etc this am. Went through the house three times and gave up. Got to the office, sat down and something poked me....they were in my back pocket.

Ha ha, that would so be me!! My Mom couldn't find her keys one day. She finally gave up and used her spare set to run errands. Later that day she opened the fridge only to find them sitting next to the milk. Go figure!! lol

prairiequeen 09-12-2010 11:09 AM

After a good 3 weeks, I finally found my jeans. I was making a jean quilt and somehow they accidently got in the wrong pile. I remember when I was cutting them up thinking, "Boy these are a nice dark blue, and soft too".

SaraSewing 09-12-2010 02:17 PM

One of my favorite set of books is "The Borrowers". It's about a family of minuture people who live among us. They are the ones who take those missing things to their own homes. I read them to all my children, and have enjoyed them again myself. I'd highly recommend them to anyone with a spark of imagination and adventure.

littlehud 09-12-2010 03:22 PM

I'm sure they are living with my house. Happens to me all the time.

Babs194068 09-14-2010 02:02 AM

Here I thought it was because I wasn't putting it where it belonged. Sure glad it wasn't me.

PensyDutch 09-14-2010 02:28 AM

Yep, I even call out to my gremlins by name - "Weared-it-go" and "Ah-doan-no". Would you believe that they even love to hide my car keys, my phone, and the cable that hooks my camera to my PC? This morning, they took one of my slippers and I am sure they blamed it on the dog.
