Sewnoma, find your camera! I would love to see a picture of that quilt :) I have done one 1600 quilt out of a Mango Margarita Bali pop and it tuned out great but I think partially because of the vibrant colors in that jellyroll. My teenage daughter loves it and I made it for her. I would love to make another and mix/cut it up though.

I appliqued on my Christmas 1600 also on the front and back. I liked the 1600 as a background. This quilt has won two awards. The last one, was 2nd place for all the applique.
I do love the look of Peckish's quilt once she cut it up. Beautiful colors. |

Once I cut apart a quilt of flying geese and added an insertion of a lightning strike.

Thank you this was just what I needed. I was going to start a Jelly roll but was not sure I really liked some that I saw that the colors seem to be concentrated in 2 lines. My friend suggested cutting it and resewing it but I was not sure it would work. You have made me see it in a new light. I never thought about the appliques either, decision time! I have to get over a New Years party here first than I can start. Again Thank you, this site is great I do not even have to ask the questions and the answers appear.

I'm working on a 1600 quilt top (I haven't sewn in months, and figured this would be a quick, easy project to get me back in the mood), but I'm not crazy about the lack of color separation thus far. Has anyone ever sewn two or three of the rows together and then cut up the the sewn strips to use in a different way?

Thanks for all the great ideas. I saw a baby/lap quilt (pinks jelly roll) that sewed the strips together then cut them apart. Below is a link to it. Just another variation of what y'all have been talking about. http://www.thequiltshow.com/os/popup...lts_id/1017354

I have made 3 1600 quilt tops and one made out of a honey bun. One I did with straight seams. One I did with diagonal seams and another I cut a diagonal X through the whole thing. Thought I could transpose triangular sections and it would be cool. Well, it would have worked if my quilt had been square. So I have a whole in the center. I am going to add an embroidered design in it. When I get done, I will post a pic.
