I have! I can't find my camera (AUUGH!) or I would post pictures...I did a 1600 out of black/brown/yellow batiks and then cut it apart into 6-1/2" squares on the bias and then re-assembled those into 4-patch squares with black sashing between and black borders them to enlarge the quilt. It turned out pretty good! I gave it to my FIL for Christmas, he really liked it. :) It came out sort of evoking a feeling of inlaid wood due to the colors.

please find your camera! Would really love to see it..sound beautiful!!

you know I did do this but used a bunch of precut rectangles that I picked up at yard sale. They were 6 1/2" wide & various lengths so it took longer. I'm going to donate it but now think I'll add an applique 1st

Yes. I did not like how mine turned out, so I cut it again and made a postage stamp quilt.

I love this idea so much better. I think I'll make a Jelly Roll Race quilt now but cut it up like you did.

What a great save, Peckish. Since you said it I have to agree that I did not like the 1600 quilt as you originally sewed it. Not your fault, it's the look itself. Your save and redo is wonderful. Think it makes all the colors pop which the strips did not.

This is mine and, to be honest, I'm not thrilled. I've debated adding applique, but with classes starting again in two weeks, that's not an option (I prefer hand applique), so I think I'm going to follow Peckish's lead and cut it up.

It is a very unique quilt, however; it has hands and feet! ;)

I have always wanted to do a jelly roll, but now I know I will and do the "Peggi" version. Question - did you fold the jelly roll in half in order to cut those new 2 1/2" strips..........can't wait til holidays are over, tree and decos are all packed away so I can get to this.........

I have hesitated to get sucked up into this craze as the quilts that I had seen did not float my boat - so to speak (lol). BUT that being said, my guild did one as a guild "lesson" so I did participate and made a Red, White, and Blue one that I decided to do for a QoV for the guild. I still do not like it (it is sitting unfinished without borders in my sewing room - I have attached a pic of it) but these additional ideas have got me thinking of what else I could do with it.

I REALLY LOVE your "new quilt" Peckish but looks like a lot of work (lol) , jeanharville's link was adorable as was ssuz's quilt, but the link that wishfulthink posted was really cool - that could be done with larger diamonds very easily and it would address the issue that for the most part the 1600 quilt is smaller than what is needed for QoV without larger borders. I might have to re-look at the quilt I made.

Thank you , thank you, thank you all for these great ideas!! If I whack it into pieces - I will post a pic of it finished!!

I've been looking, I swear! I am almost positive it's somewhere in the house but I cannot find it for the life of me. I even "threatened" it by picking out a new camera and putting it into my Amazon shopping cart but it called my bluff. I'm really frustrated because I took pictures of almost all of my Christmas quilts before it vanished and haven't downloaded them, so if it's gone all I have is a few bad shots I took with my phone. GRRR!! (My phone has a terrible camera)

I might just go ahead and buy a new camera. That just about guarantees the old one will magically appear. Cameras have gotten so cheap these days, it might be worth it just to have a backup. I should also use this as a lesson - download pictures IMMEDIATELY! It's a lot harder to lose my gigantic PC!
