MandaLynn 06-17-2011 07:17 AM

I'm contemplating making a pattern for my grandmother with this site, and wanted to see if anyone had made a quilt using this and how they came out.

http://www.vam.ac.uk/microsites/quilts/patchwork

http://www.vam.ac.uk/microsites/quil...rk/26704/Pansy this is the one I really want to make, My grandmother's name is actually Pansy.

thoughts?

DebraK 06-17-2011 07:22 AM

I have it saved, but haven't got around to using it yet.

Grammashel 06-17-2011 07:35 AM

I've never seen this site before. It looks awesome. I'm going to go back and explore more. Thanks for the tip.

QuiltnNan 06-17-2011 07:35 AM

Very interesting. Thanks for the link.

MandaLynn 06-17-2011 07:50 AM

Glad I could help out! I'm still planning on making that pansy quilt, and when I get it done I'll post pix and see how well it comes out compared to the picture

Thank you for the fabulous website posting.

Awesome!

Now you did it! I hadn't seen this site before and got involved with exploring it. I've already printed a pattern and started pulling fabric! Now if I just didn't have to sleep......

Wow!! I live in UK but did not know about this site!!! Many thanks for the link!! It looks really interesting!!!

amma 06-17-2011 08:13 AM

Looks like a fun site! Thanks for sharing :D:D:D

trrmite 06-17-2011 08:28 AM

It was fun running around that site, but at my stage of quilting all I can do is dream, but I enjoyed looking. I wrote the site down to give to a lady at the Army who said she wanted to make a memory quilt.

pocoellie 06-17-2011 08:50 AM

I haven't used it yet, but I have 4 pictures destined to be done.

MrsM 06-17-2011 08:58 AM

That would drive me crazy.

Kitsie 06-17-2011 09:31 AM

Whoa, those are just like cross-stitch patterns! Love the pansy! My Nana was "Daisy"! (And so is my middle name!)

Kaz 06-17-2011 01:28 PM

Looks just like the cross stitch pattern maker I use! Have also done tapestries bought from the Victoria & Albert museum before of William Morris's work. Way cool.....

craftybear 06-17-2011 10:31 PM

cool, thanks for the links

They sure do look like cross-stitch. As a matter of fact I have used cross-stitch patterns for quilts. Use either the fusible gridded foundation or make into an applique. More options!!

fireworkslover 06-18-2011 04:21 AM

A woman in my guild uses cross stitch patterns to make quilts. She uses 1" squares ending up with 1/2" squares pieced. They are simply awesome to see, as many are very large.

Kutnso 06-18-2011 04:23 AM

WOW!!! I've never done it but it really looks interesting. I just might try it---someday.
Thanks for sharing, Kutnso

daisylil 06-18-2011 05:16 AM

i have used a similar process on my avatar :)

mountain deb 06-18-2011 05:18 AM

Another sight to delve into in the near future with all those quilt block designs I have. Thanks!

I haven't used this site, looks a little complicated for a pansy.
Theres a couple books that have simpler pansy patterns.
Pick a Perfect Petal by Lorraine Stangness & Patt Evans,
The Garden Club by Jean Humenansky & Mimi Shimp.
I have made quilt blocks/quilts from both books and they are great patterns. :D

How Cool! Thanks.

Great site! It is now on my "To Do" list.

LouBert 06-18-2011 06:09 AM

OMG, what an awsome gift...I could do my granddaughter and give it to her Mom for Xmas ... thank you so much

star619 06-18-2011 06:28 AM

Amazing! Now between this site & that site, I should have about...1/2 hour a day for quilting! No really, thanks!
Debbie

Really amazing! Can't thank you enough for posting the site. I have already made one from a picture of my son and his bride-to-be. I think it would be an incredible wedding present. I love you pansy, I say go for it, it would really be a work of art.

carlasuewho 06-18-2011 07:56 AM

I have done 2 cross stitch style wall quilts. Bigger squares would make bigger quilts! I didn`t use a foundation, though, as the site suggested. Just pieced the squares using a cross stitch pattern as my guide.

Katiequiltsalot 06-18-2011 08:25 AM

I used it to make DD a quilt of her Chocolate Lab. She loved it, it turned out really well.

Awesome, Thanks! I'm sure that it'll look awesome, its just going to take some time and patience.

Glad to hear it works!

b.zang 06-18-2011 08:39 AM

That is one FUN site to look through.
I've been fascinated for years by those pictures made up of smaller picture squares; this is kind of similar. Maybe more like a colour wash. Another one on the wish list!

How nice!
Could you please show us the original picture ... and then the quilt?

I didn't use a pattern maker, just put a grid on a photocopy of the photo, and went blindly at this project ...........

lol, yeah I don't have time to look at it fully now either. But after seeing that Pansy, it makes me want to know what that beauty would look like as a quilt.

Happy Linda 06-18-2011 11:01 AM

Yikes.

lollygagging 06-18-2011 11:16 AM

A large quilt in shades of tan and beige was shown here from a quilt show of some sort and I wondered how it had been done. Thanks for the site and an answer. I'd never seen one done before that one. They are really amazing.

Okay - I did the same thing - but I had difficulty in getting the pattern to size and then - even tho I selected the pattern using more than just squares - it printed squares only. Also when I printed the pattern, the page that included info about the fabric pieces # needed and colours - came out showing no colors just alpha and #'s beside it. I thought the #'s might mean the number of squares you needed in that color - but the pattern did not include some of the alphas given and the numbers did not add up to the number shown on the grid. Can you figure out what it means? Couldn't find a way to delete what you've done either. I tried creating my avatar photo and only got a small part of the top left corner. Then I created a Pink Rose pattern. Got the whole rose, but not as a complex pattern. Also couldn't find any "help" feature.

BettyGee 06-18-2011 12:44 PM

Well I guess you could, but with all the terrific patterns out there why would you drive yourself bonkers with this?
