I'm a bit late to the discussion, but I find these rulers are the best for paper piecing...takes all the "thinking" out of it...just fold the paper, put the ruler next to the paper, and cut...correct seam allowance (either 1/8 or 1/4 inch) instantly. I do a lot of paper piecing and use these rulers all the time.

This is a small ruler for paper piecing. It is a great tool if you are doing that kind of quilting. It is not really necessary but it sure does help.

I also have that ruler, I like it for paper piecing, because the added 1/4 in is slightly raised and it buts up against the seam edge nicely!
