I've been reading about it on Amazon.com and also perusing the reviews. I am really impressed with it but after reading some reviews, I don't know.
I really need a better machine than I have now but can't afford a really expensive machine.

I have it and it works GREAT :thumbup: Some of the decorative stitches don't come out clear - But I don't know if that is a quirk of the machine or the fact I need to get mine checked out :wink: I use mine quiet a bit and have had no real problems . It is light and portable - ask any questions and I will try and help

I don't have that machine, but a Brother for $169 sounds like a good deal. I wouldn't pass that up if I were looking for a low cost machine.

I have a friend who has one and it is great. She uses it to take to classes because it is lightweight. It has a needle threader and needle up/down I believe which is very useful.

In September I was working a garage sale sponsored by the sewing guild and got into a conversation with a gentleman who quilts. He had bought this machine for quilting and loved it so much, the following year he bought one for his daughter for Christmas. Thought that was a pretty good recommendation so I recommended it to the parent of one of my sewing students as well. The lucky girl is getting one for Christmas this year!

Recently bought this because of the decorative stitches. Love it. I found the cheapest place to get it was Walmart online - free shipping.

I have this machine and use it for piecing. love it. the decorative stitches aren't very nice. that is the only negative.

The only problem I would have with this machine is trying to quilt on it because of the rounded throat space. It does not allow much to be crammed in there not matter how you scrunch and cram. I have a brother with the rounded space, that is the ONLY thing I don't like about my Brother machine! On the other hand if you have another machine that you could actually quilt on.....then you wouldn't need this machine for quilting! problem solved.

My mom has one and she loves it and has had no problems with it.

I have that machine and love it. The only problem I had was the timing belt slipping after FMQing a large quilt. A local repair shop fixed it for free because it was less than a year old so still under warranty. I did not buy the machine at this shop but they were great anyway.

This is a wonderful machine with lots of extras! You'll love the push button sewing option. I've yet to use the pedal. This was suppose to be a back-up machine for me, but I often use it. It's well worth the money, you won't regret it. I ordered mine from Amazon also.

I have this machine and 3 other brothers...It sews well and is light to take to classes if that is a need. I use it primarily for piecing when my others are tied up for other projects...but it was good enough to lead me to 3 other brothers. Hope this is a help.

I purchased this machine in early October from Amazon for $147.54. I really enjoy quilting with it. I especially like all of the quilting accessories that came with the machine. So far, no problems. I love it, love it, love it.

My sister has this machine and paid $199 for it at Walmart. There is a newer model that works the same as this that is also within that price range. I would check out your local WM before I bought and paid shipping. Personally, I think you can find that machine for less.

I have this machine and have used it a lot in classes and when I travel. It is light-weight and mine came with additional feet, the attachable table, and a cover. I have a more expensive machine that I use at home or when quilting as it has a bigger arm opening and is heavier, but the Brother has been terrific for piecing and quilting small items. I got mine through Amazon and have not been disappointed! The only problem I had was figuring out the automatic needle threader. When I took it to a dealer he said it was fine, just be sure to push the up/down needle button once and it will set the needle in the correct place to thread. (Who knew?) I would go for it!

I have had this machine for almost 3 years and use it almost every day. I am pleased with it.

I have this machine for 3 years. LOVE IT!! The only issue I have had is the needle threader. I just don't use it. Great for quilt bee or just quilting at home.

I have owned this machine for over 3 years and quilt on it 95% of the time. I take it to retreats or sew-in too. The only problem that I have had is the bobbin winder feature, but I use a bobbin buddy unit so I don't have to worry with it. It sews great and it will sew thru 4 to six layers fairly good. I use my quarter foot on the machine and have to change to Option "01" each time I start, or I break a needle hitting the quarter foot. I bought my unit at Walmart for under $150 with all the attachments, extension bed and cover for machine.

That is my go to class and charity quilting. I am so happy I have it. I bought it after loving my Brother 1500s that I use on a New Joy frame to quilt and it does a terrific job of piecing too. Both are great machines.

I have a Brother that I got through Costco and have had some problems with it that cost me lots of time. (Perhaps this model is improved.) Consumer Reports rates sewing machines and they previously recommended a Kenmore that was about $120 (possibly less, on sale). I also have that machine -- sorry, I don't have the model number, but it is non-computerized. I keep the Brother at one son's house (in Boston) and the Kenmore at my other son's house (in Phoenix) :-) At home, I have the Janome 6600P.

Personally I'm sold on Janome sewing machines. They are very user friendly. The reason I know this is because when I started quilting 8 years ago I didn't own a sewing machine and had NEVER SEWED and am now making beautiful quilts. I bought a low end machine and traded up to a Memory Craft 4800 which is a good quilting machine and I've never had any problems. Janome gives lessons along with their machines. You could perhaps buy a used machine that has more features that someone had traded in and save yourself some money. Two of my friends have Janomes that are 19 and 24 years old without any repairs. Belonging to a quilting group usually is an excellent idea as I've found quilters are very generous with their knowledge. Good luck on finding a machine.

I bought it from Walmart.com.After a few days I returned it because it would only use half a bobbin and the machine would wine and make other strange noises.Wont buy another.

Go to a store that handles this machine. Then you can ask questions and try it out. I have a Brother machine, not this particular one, but I love mine. Also check out the home shopping network. They handle Brother and they have some very good buys there. Also if you buy from them and don't like it, you can return it easily. That is where I got mine and it was a better buy than in a sewing center shop. Doesn't cost anything to check it.

I have this one, the reviews on Pattern Review really impressed me and I needed an inexpensive machine for classes. I use it for all kinds of piecing, FMQ, etc. Not a fancy machine, but it gets the job done for me every time and never gives me any trouble. I also have a larger Brother Embroidery combo machine and a serger and coverstitch by Brother.

My daughter and a cousin both bought this machine from Walmart about a year ago for $159. They are both real pleased with the machine but neither are big quilters. My daughter does a lot of craft sewing and the cousin is learning to quilt. I have sewn on my daughters and thought is was a great little machine. It is very light weight so easy to get out and put away. If you go on their website, walmart.com, they ship it free to your home.

Cindy in NY......I just saw this very machine (I think) in Wal Mart and it was on sale for $135.00............BROTHER..........had about a zillion different stitches on it........I thought it looked like a really good price for it..........was so tempted / my Bernina is in the shop for repairs right now, and I would sure like a back-up machine for times like this.........anyways, the one I saw at Wally World sure looks like the photo of this one..........cheaper and no shipping.......worth a look, yes?

I have a brother machine .I don't like it. I can't Bind a quilt on it. It doesn't like the heavy stuff. It boggs down sewing over two seams piecing a quilt. I don't no what model it is. I have old Dressmaker commercial school use that I do heavy stuff on.I wish I had another one.

You know the old saying ... "You get what you pay for"! This is a true story and thought I'd pass it along to you. I have a "very close friend" who owned and operated a Fabric Store, Sewing Machine Sales and Service Repair shop for 40 years. He knows sewing machines, inside and out ... if he told you your machine would drive your car, it would indeed drive your car! A party brought in a fairly new "Low Priced" Singer Sewing Machine for repair work. When he called the Singer Corp. for some needed parts .... they told him they didn't make replacement parts for those machines. When he told them it was a fairly new machine and asked how was he suppose to repair it ..... the Singer Corp. told him, "Sell them a "new" machine"! So, the message here is ... these "very cheap and inexpensive sewing machines" are what you call .... "Disposable Machines" (like disposable cameras).

I have the Brother 4000 version - 40 stitches - 1 step down from the one you want. I LOVE mine, it is quiet, does a good job going through denim on jeans, easy to use, and light weight. I especially love the fact it stops with the needle down position. I use mine almost every morning, quilting, sewing apron out of blue jeans, mending, etc. I am so pleased with mine that I recommend it to anyone looking for a new machine. I bought mine in a Wal-Mart for $129.00 about 2 years ago. It replaced a New Home machine I had had for over 30 years. It would have cost me almost as much $ to fix that one as it cost to buy this one. The only thing I do not like is that the sleeve arm is bigger than the one that I replaced.

have never used this machine but find that i occassionally need to have my machine serviced. where do you go if you need service? how much will it cost? you can probably find the same machine at a dealers for the sa me price and have free lessons and support. its probably a great machine but i'd want someone i can count on if something does go wrong. good luck whatever you decide.

I didn't get this particular model, but I did get the XR9000 and I love it - got it off of Amazon also....refurbished and it's wonderful!!! The decorative stitches come out very clear....small, but nice.

I'm just dreaming at this point but thanks for all the input you gave me.

To those who suggest I go to a dealer for Janome and other high cost machines..............I can barely scrap up enough for this machine @ $169.99 let a lone a Janome. Belive me, I'd like nothing better than to have a top notch machine but not everyone, including myself can afford those machines. I started out sewing on a simple Singer dh got me for Christmas in 1968 and loved but it went on the fritz and we don't have any repair shops near here. I got a Brother XL3022 14 years ago at Walmart for $179 which I like and am using still and haven't had any trouble with it at all but I want one that has more features, now that I am learning to quilt.
JoAnn's has one I'd really like but the $299. (on sale, reg. $399) price tag is beyond my reach. :(
I'll let you know what I get if I am lucky enough to get a new one.

It looks like a bargain at that price. I have a Brother which was originally $2000.00 and reduced to $1,000.00 in a sale. I know it is not in the same class, but my machine is better than the other brand that I have that cost $7,000.00. So I will buy another Brother without hesitation.

Hope you are happy with the end result - I couldn't afford a good machine until I retired; paid $7000.00 for it and $3000.00 extra for hoops and programs and it has never worked or talked to the computer correctly. The high - end company have never been cooperative. My cheaper Brother is the workhorse. All the best.
