Anyone want to quilt with me today?

To start the year off in a positive fashion, I've decided to work on UFOs today. Is anyone else quilting? What are you working on?

sewmany 01-01-2015 04:52 AM

Yes.... I am heading to my quilt room as soon as the coffee is done drewing.

psychonurse 01-01-2015 04:59 AM

I am going to set up my serger for a 3 thread rolled edge. I hate having to change needles in it.
I started this week with putting magazines in old 3 ring binders, the mags have been sitting in stacks on the floor. I went to the thrift store Monday, bought 2 large binders, bleached them yesterday, so hope to get more off the floor and into a book case.
oh yeah I just got my tri flo grease and lubricant, I need to clean my older serger and make it hum better.
Ok another thing I hope to work, on, is putting fabric away, I bought the comic book boards several months ago and haven't completed that project, but I have worked on it a little at a time.

yesterday I machine embroidered on burlap for the first time, but I need to read my SM manual and figured out how to join phrases, without having to re hoop all the time.
and I need to take a nap later in order to be awake to watch the Sugar Bowl. RTR

My sewing room is such a mess I can hardly function. I have been trying this week to get a handle on it so I can sew. I don't want to clean, I want to sew. Unfortunately, when I go in there to work on something, I get so frustrated looking for something I go back to the computer. I guess I need to put on my big girl pantes and CLEAN IT UP. Wish me luck.

daisydawg 01-01-2015 05:13 AM

Going to work on some UFO'S, I have way too many.

gramajo 01-01-2015 05:24 AM

I'll be getting the borders on a lap quilt for a friend who is moving. Then I'd like to get it layered and start quilting it.

Jeanne S 01-01-2015 05:33 AM

I have a couple of tops done that need sandwiching. But first I have so many nice sized scraps of batting that need to be joined together to use them, so that is the task I have assigned myself today!

janRN 01-01-2015 05:36 AM

I think I'll take today off. For the past week I've been working on a Medallion quilt. Have all the segments cut, blocked out, spaced, ready to sew. Did a final trial layout yesterday and I'm off by 1/2" in the center! Grrr. Maybe if I let it sit today that extra 1/2" will magically disappear and I can finish it tomorrow! Enjoy your day, ladies.

MissM 01-01-2015 05:38 AM

I'm in, it's only 18 degrees here so no way that I am going any where today, so that makes it a quilting day. :)
I am working on a UFO that was one of the very first quilt tops I made. About time right?

franc36 01-01-2015 05:45 AM

I'm making Jenny Doan's Disappearing Hourglass #2 blocks. My goal is to finish at least 12 blocks today. Fortunately, the Sugar Bowl is tonight so that will not interfere my sewing today. Happy New year everyone!

oklahomamom2 01-01-2015 05:48 AM

I'm working on a quilt that is well needed to be worked on I"m making a nine patch with rose fabric. It has been challenging since I have my kids home with me but I have been working on it a little at a time during the day. I can't wait to finish it I know it will be just beautiful. There is another one that I was working on but I sorta missed placed it so I guess when I'm not working on the rose quilt I'll be looking for the other one.

Judith1005 01-01-2015 05:57 AM

I'll join you today as well. I need to get started on a post card and a baby quilt and also have lots of UFO's to work on so yes, so glad to see this thread today. Will post photos later. Look forward to reading about all your great starts or finishes.

CanoePam 01-01-2015 06:37 AM

I am in the process of finishing the piecing for a Christmas quilt, a scrap kit I got three years ago or more. I completed all the subunits at a retreat my ASG group had in early October; now I am putting the subunits together into the blocks. I tried something different thsi time - pressing my seams open, just to see how it would work. It didn't! I am having a dreadful time matching up the seams. Guess I learned my lesson on this! I am off work until 5 January, so I am determined to finish the top before I go back. Maybe I'll get it quilted during January!

I'm in. I'm working on New Year's Day Mystery quilt. My brain is very muzzy yet - off to walk the dog, grab caffeine and then get started! Have a great day, everyone!

Julienm1 01-01-2015 06:49 AM

Me, too! Working on drw since it's dh rqst. But have to save up to send it out to be quilted.

SuzyM 01-01-2015 07:04 AM

I need to put my fabric away today that I pulled for my quilt I am currently working on. I made a deal with myself today, no quilting until chores or done so then it is off to vacuum and dust - then I get to quilt.

I am having a tough time today - there is a 20 percent off everything in the store today at my LQS. I really don't need any fabric but I really want to go. . . . what to do

Yes, I'm in. I will continue putting binding on a quilt that I finished quilting yesterday. I really surprised myself, as I always said I would never put a white binding on, but that is what I decided on. I really like the way it will finish this quilt. Then I have a block of the month for my guild, and then I will be deciding on my next quilt.

I am one of those folks who can only do one project at a time...all the way until it is finished....before I start the next. I don't even have a quilt in mind. So, that will be fun...deciding my next. It can also be frustrating. We'll see which it is.

Let me take a picture of where this the binding is on this quilt. Tell me if you think it will look as good as I think it will. :) (Well, taking the picture was a bit more challenging than I though...and I finally just stuck it back on my design wall. Ignore my quilt inspector. He always has an opinion.)

I am going to finish putting together a lap quilt top and then I will be working on the Grand Illusion Mystery quilt.

Boston1954 01-01-2015 07:24 AM

I am working on a snowman wall hanging for my sister. Top nearly done. Just have the carrot nose and then eyes and mouth. Not sure about quilting. Usually just echo the item.

running1 01-01-2015 07:31 AM

Well, I'll get to sew, but will be working on some bags for my sister to take to Nicaragua on a mission trip in February. If my sweet DH gets the tree put up, I'll set up my basting table and start basting a couple of lap quilts that are READY!!!! I love using Sharon Schamber's basting method.... Happy Quilting everyone!!

MaryKatherine 01-01-2015 07:36 AM

I have an art piece that I started about a month ago. Time to finish it and move on!

amber1957 01-01-2015 07:45 AM

I will be working on Bonnie Hunter's Grand Illusion mystery then some projects from my quilt guild's community service.

maryb119 01-01-2015 07:47 AM

I have a new purse cut out so I may work on that. I always start a new quilt project on New Years Day. I am not a football fan.

Me too. I need to clean up and organize. I also need to oil my machine. So... gonna have to do the drudge work before the fun stuff!

GailG 01-01-2015 07:54 AM

We've got very yukky weather today --drizzly, cold, dreary. After reading the post on scraps of 12/30, I may just grab a box of scraps and chop them up into usable pieces. I am so bummed by all that you people are doing with scraps and all I can do is worry about how I'll organize them. I've been "collecting" scraps since I began quilting in 1995 and have actually never used them in anything of importance. IF I could only get off the runway with leaders/enders piecing, that would be progress.

Me too! I've been working on mine for two days, on and off. Am headed back to it shortly. I did wake up in a much better mood knowing that I was making headway on the mess. It'll feel so great to get it done!

lots2do 01-01-2015 07:58 AM

Dina, love the quilt and the binding!

Abby'smom 01-01-2015 08:02 AM

Yes, it's a dreary day here with rain coming for the next couple of days -- just right for quilting, reading, or napping, or all three!! -- I have one carpenter's wheel quilt to finish quilting, an Irish Mist to finish (been in a box way too long), and a Baltimore Album to applique the final border of vines, leaves, and flowers as well as quilts and such planned for the new year (I like to get my bee gifts for next Christmas done early in the year)!! -- now to just get started again!!

117becca 01-01-2015 08:38 AM

i'm quilting and watching the Rose Bowl Parade. A day of football is on the agenda for me, too. Hope i can stay awake to watch the Sugar Bowl tonite...I hate 8 pm games!!

Atomicdog 01-01-2015 09:03 AM

I'm in - I need to finish turning the binding on a fall table runner (so close and yet so far!!) Have made a promise to myself that I'll try to put a few hours in each weekend working on my sewing - I've gotten too far from it!

Marsh 01-01-2015 09:26 AM

Dina- your quilt is darling. I think the white binding will work - did you try a sample of the dark blue or purple for binding?

Dina 01-01-2015 10:10 AM

Yes, I did, and I just auditioned white because some one on this board suggested it as a possibility. The purple would have worked fine, but this white just really said "pick me." So I did. The quilt is for me, so I will just try to not drag the white part on the floor. :)

Sun is shining, but the wind is blowing and it's cold out, so we'll be staying in today. I've been doing some hand quilting while I watch The Tudors on dvd, then I'm heading down to my sewing room to start putting together a quilt for my DGS. I've had it cut out for about 3 weeks, but working 6 days a week, and the holidays, I had to put it on hold. Perfect day for quilting!

maryjane 01-01-2015 10:34 AM

I'm in. Have an old UFO that is ready to be quilted so I'm tackling that. First step is to decide how to quilt it. MJ

quiltingcandy 01-01-2015 10:35 AM

Yesterday my husband went to the SDSU basketball game with our daughter and friend so I went into my sewing room and put away all the items from the Christmas projects and it looked so nice and inviting. Tried to decide what to work on next and figured it needed to be the Double Irish Chain that has been partially hand quilted for years. (In fact, I was trying to remember when it was started and I believe it was in 2004, maybe 2003. It took me a long time to decide on all the fabrics.) I actually did some quilting. So after lunch I will go into my sewing room and start sewing with the rest of you all.

Leslie333 01-01-2015 10:50 AM

I'm in! It's sunny, but cold here in Ohio. DS is on a snowboard trip with friends and DH is napping. Dinner is in the crock pot - traditional pork, hot dogs, and saurkraut. Great day to quilt! I'm going to work on putting together some placemats for me, then start on a quick and easy Project Linus quilt - big squares and sashing.

sewingsuz 01-01-2015 11:03 AM

I am working on a couple table runners I had cut out for a while. I realized when I got one top don that is is way to skinny in width so I have to look for some more of the fabric I used to put boarders on. I may have some more in My stash but I have to Look. Happy quilting to all!

gramajo 01-01-2015 12:34 PM

Well, I've been trying to sew since noon and haven't accomplished much. Too busy watching the Winter Classic. Through 21 periods, I've only gotten 1 border one.

FURBALLS 01-01-2015 12:37 PM

I have been cutting fabric for another quilt.

Jeanne S 01-01-2015 12:42 PM

Wahoo!! Just finished whip stitching pieces of batting together for my next two quilts! It is a task I dread doing but the batting leftover pieces were really stacking up. Still have other loose pieces, but those can wait for another day!

now, I have to make a back for one quilt and have 2 waiting for binding. I am determined to get these UFOs done before starting a new one!

dina I like the white binding!!!
