Quilting Aggi 03-02-2008 06:49 AM

So today looks like its going to be a snow/sew day here. We are having some crappy weather with snow, high winds, and just an overall icky yuky Sunday. I am planning to make this a sew/quilt day.

I'm just curious to see if anyone else out there is planning a sew/quilting day like me and what will you be working on?

I plan to finish hand quilting a Spring Quilt I'm working on. The bright colours will perk me up when the weather outside is so gross. I also plan to finish basting and start machine quilting a courthouse steps quilt this afternoon.

Love to hear who will be joining me in sew/quilt day today??? :)

Cheers
Andrea

I plan on making some red, white and blue squares for our groups quilts for wounded warriors.
Weather wise I should be outside. It is perfect weather this time of year in Phoenix AZ. It hits the high 70,s so very nice.
But when the quilting bug hits weather dosnt matter.

pawquilts 03-02-2008 07:53 AM

I am doing some applique work today. Although not quilting, I am making kitchen towels with an Irish flair. Using white terry fabric, I will add shamrocks using applique method and then lace edges. :)

We are suppose to get a bit of sun today so later I will go for a ride on the ATV with my DH. After it warms up a bit! Just frosty out right now.

For now I am working on my BOM for my group that meets in just over a week. I have to get 3 blocks finished for that. Then take the charity quilt off the frame and bind it so I can take it to the quild meeting. I have to make 4 blocks for the Kalidoscope of Kolor quilt (that groups meets in 2 weeks) And I joined a month late so I need to do block # 1 too. I still need to bind the baby quilt I made. Baby is due in May, so there is time on that one.

Sounded fun till I wrote it all out. Now it sounds a bit overwhelming!
Put up shelves and organized my quilting room. I got behind on the projects, but the room is so much easier to work in now! :D

Minda 03-02-2008 08:01 AM

I'm working on a quilt for a wedding gift, so I'll be finishing some of the blocks for that today.

MissTreated 03-02-2008 08:16 AM

I'm working on a mountain of laundry! :D

Chele 03-02-2008 08:43 AM

Working on a Log Cabin UFO, BOM (done!), laundry (maybe...), exercise (big maybe!), and hoping to catch the 2 pm Cathedral Windows class.

Yvonne 03-02-2008 10:50 AM

I'm hoping to sit in on the cathedral windows class. Also will make a final decision on how to quilt that New Years Day quilt and maybe even get that started! Perhaps do a few more hand quilting stitches on the cat quilt.

We've got some 'milky' sunshine so far. Woke up to lots of frost so it's brisk outside!

bj 03-02-2008 10:56 AM

I'm hoping to get a baby quilt for bf's first granddaughter sandwiched and quilted today. It's kindof windy here, so don't plan to be outside much.

Pam Pollock 03-02-2008 11:20 AM

I'm playing on the computer before I go & put the binding on a patriotic donation quilt that will be raffled to help pay for packages to be sent to the troops. My friend Sherrie & I have been working on this as a team effort. She has an embroidery machine & I have a quilting table so it's been a joint effort. I'll post a photo when it's done. We got the pattern from a 2008 quilting calandar & adjusted some of the blocks to add a neat embroidered eagle pattern in one of our blocks. My DH is out burning the burn piles & enjoying a break in the weather. I'm enjoying the light coming through the window!! LOL

Mamagus 03-02-2008 11:32 AM

I just finished the top of that sampler quilt. Finally done! I'll get it put together over Easter break when I get into the school and can spread out three or four quilts and get them all pinned.

And speaking of school! I just finished term two reports! YAHOOOOO! That makes me that much closer to retirement in June!!!!

I'll post pics of the quilt top later.

mic-pa 03-02-2008 01:17 PM

I went with my daughter to the Senior Center to lay out two quilts and helped her put the binding on them. she got them on by machine and now will take them home to finish hand sewing them to the back of the quilt. I also measured and pinned two borders on my latest Red White and Blue quilt. So got a lot done while Dh stayed home and cooked dinner. Marge

vicki reno 03-02-2008 01:38 PM

I have just cut out 25 hearts in 3 different sizes for my raggedy heart sofa quilt in yellow and blue. I still need 31 more as it will be an 8" block and will need 56 blocks. Sat down for about 30 minutes to read and now getting ready to go to 5:30 church service. I usually go at 7:30 AM service but was lazy this morning and now I have to go tonight.

lisae 03-02-2008 02:07 PM

I spent part of the morning sewing quilt blocks, before I went to get my hair cut. I am at work now, but will quit soon and head home. I am going to finish binding the quilt for Brian's baby (due in two weeks) tonight. I will give it to him tomorrow, so I have to finish it tonight.

sandpat 03-02-2008 03:46 PM

I have only 1 more side to finish binding on my monkey/balloon quilt, so will get that done today. Also plan to sew the final border on my 1st split nine patch quilt that I made last Thurs. night. I have to figure out how I'm going to quilt that too.

In between all that I'm nursing my DH...down with the flu (I think)...Dr.'s office visit tomorrow :-(

Barb M 03-02-2008 03:50 PM

Sorry your hubby isnt feeling well sandpat, hope he feels better real soon. Today im still working on Feb's BOM, been working on it all week, but might have one square finished tonight. After that I'm gonna make 3 more squares and turn it into a wall-hanging, it will be a gift for my doctor...hope to get it done soon

julie 03-02-2008 05:04 PM

Between loads of laundry, I started working on a nine-patch baby quilt for my grandbaby due in June. Already finished a rail fence baby quilt for my other grandbaby due also in June. Babies, babies everywhere!! Also, thinking about an idea for a quilt for my 2-year-old grandsons birthday in May. I already made one for the 4-year-old. Would somebody take over my house payments so I can stay home and quilt?!

Suz 03-02-2008 05:43 PM

I just finished quilting my Quilt of Valor for the week. All I have to do is bind and attach the label. This is my 33rd QOV. It will be going to Lundstuhl, Germany tomorrow.

PamH 03-02-2008 05:54 PM

No quilting today.. Spent the day with my 3 year old granddaughter, just being Gram to her and making her feel special. Lots of laundry done and started chasing the bunny on the fab hop.

blahel 03-02-2008 07:51 PM

sunny and dry here with not a cloud in the sky and around 30 degrees celsius (dont know in fahrenheit)..need to finish making pillow part for a baby quillow but husband and teenage sons keep getting me sidetracked onto other things as is a public holiday here.
Was meant to be ready for when baby born last week...but better late than never..

annmarie 03-02-2008 08:03 PM

I worked most of the day on the Turning Twenty duvet cover for the down comforter on my bed. IT'S DONE but need to wait for brighter light to take a pic. It was reeeeeeeeeally gloomy here today. Raining now on top of all the snow. Boo.

Joan 03-03-2008 07:06 AM

I know it's Monday now but will post my activities for yesterday as everyone else did. I am working on a lap quilt for my soon to be 85 year old Dad. It originally was going to be all browns and tans, masculine looking. But, I just couldn't stop myself and have added some blue highlights---very scrappy looking, too. The day was lots of fun and I hope to have a picture to post one of these days. Thank goodness for weekends, it off to work this morning.....

Connie1948 03-03-2008 08:40 AM

Heading for a local quilter who is going out of business. Is selling her Little Grace frame and around 10 boards for 250. I am going to see if my Bernina will work on it. If it does I am coming home with it. She is going to help me mount my quilt and sewing machine. I hope I can do it. My quilting is not that great. This would be a big help. No more shoving and turning quilts around and around. Send little prayers that my little used all season sun room becomes my quilting room!

Flying_V_Goddess 03-03-2008 11:30 AM

I got a book on how to do Celtic knotwork so I could try and make my own borders for my sea map wallhanging instead of looking through 8 billion websites trying to find one that I like and will work for this design. I fiddled around with it last night and this morning and it just isn't working. I pretty much get the concept of how knotwork is done, but when I try to do my own designs (after trying the ones shown in the book) suddenly the concepts don't work. I'll keep trying at it and see if I at least get something that's good and not from the book.

In the mean time, I'm probably just gonna do more research on screen printing (I want to try and screen print my islands onto the map blocks) and play Guitar Hero (who knows? Might get an idea from playing it).

Steve 03-03-2008 12:01 PM

Always! I think that if I didn't spend some time on the quilting each day I'd be at a loss. Strange how that happened...

Am quilting the doll quilt and trying to figure out the color scheme/design to quilts for both a niece and nephew.

luckylolo 03-03-2008 12:33 PM

I am working on my income taxes......do it in the cellar on a ping pong table where there is a lot of room and not many distractions--after which I've promised myself a couple hours to work on my newest quilt border!

ania755 03-03-2008 02:43 PM

I am in the ripping process of my almost finished quilt........
I realize there is a large Gran canyon ....where I added the extra batting............
I will try to fix it...but who knows.....
Its not the best quilting day for me....

I have a wedding quilt to make too, but it doesn't need to be ready until August, so I still have a little time yet!!

Sounds like a great quilt Joan!! I made a lap quilt for my Dad years ago, but unfortunately it didnt' get finished in time. He passed away 9 years ago. He loved to take afternoon naps and curl under a blanket! HE would cover up his head too! LOL I continued making the lap/nap qult top, but have yet to quilt it. I couldnt' bring myself to finish it yet.. but much time has past and I do still plan to complete it. It was blue and white with applique flowers all over it. He loved his garden and planting flowers and shrubs. I called the quilted "Flowers for Daddy". I will use it for my afternoon cat naps now. I will feel a little closer to him when I use it. I am an only child and I was very very close to my Dad. Yep I was a Daddy's Girl.. and although he is gone and I'm 36 years old (turned 36 week ago today) I am still a Daddy's Girl!! :)

I cant' wait to see the photo Joan!

Well, Aggi......I opted to go with scrappy and a cream background and plan to put some color for the sashing, blue or sage perhaps? Anyway, here are 13 of the blocks on my design wall so far...have more made but this is all that will fit on my small flannel wall! LOL I have a close up of 4 of them also will post that....the big picture didn't turn out all that well, the lighting was bad in here that time of day.

oooh wow!!! Country Quilter that is a great quilt!!! very colourful!!! Its looking great!

babeegirl 03-04-2008 05:47 AM

I got 5 blocks done for the bali quilt that Misstreated posted. I didn't get anything done on the Crown Royal quilt. I need to complete all of my projects in the next 5 months as I've decided to go back to school after 20 years and finish my accounting degree. After 140 hours I'll have a BA in accounting with a minor in Criminal Justice:) I'm so terrified lol! Someone needs to promise me that they'll come kick my butt from Kansas to California if I chicken out! The prospect of Business Calculus leaves me with a brick in my stomache. It's too good of a deal to pass up though, the company I work for is paying 100% of tuition costs so I'd be a complete idiot not to.
