The other nice thing with a snipe program is that you don't have to be online at the end of the auction!

When I see see something I want I usually won't bid - because if I bid I feel that I am showing more interest and I want to lay low.....but I bookmark it - and I will watch it - and then I will wait til it is just about to end and then bid near the end of the auction - I will rarely bid early - and most of the time it will work :-)

You don't need to do that. There is something called "Auction Sniper". "Sniping" is the term for bidding at the last second in order to win. You tell Auction Sniper which item you want, and the maximum bid you want to make, and the seconds till the end to place the bid. I use Auction Sniper all the time for things I really want. I know you're disappointed, but it's all part of the bidding process. If you use Auction Sniper, you do have a higher chance of getting what you want.

Just curious, what happens if the other bidders are using this program too? Who comes out the winner if there is only a few seconds left, and 3 people using Sniper are bidding at the same time?

I have never done ebay and I never want to. My husband and my two sons use it and Craig's List all the time. They really like it and they get some good deals. In fact, my husband got my Bernina embroidery module off ebay for a good price. Still, I have no interest in it. I suppose you could say that I am technophobic. Fortunately, the men in my world do the ebay work for me.

Well, it still comes down to whose snipe goes through last before the auction closes. It is unlikely, given the number of ebay transactions that occur every minute, that two people's snipes would not only be put through on exactly the same item for exactly the same amount at exactly the same instance, but if it were, it still would be won by the bid that cleared electronically at the last possible moment before the auction ended. Now that I have re-read that sentence, I would have to guess that it is probably easier to win the lottery than for that to happen!

Have been clearing out old magazines & recycling them. Have a couple in the bin & will check them in the AM to see if they are ones you'd like.

Have you checked your library. I went today and found at least 20 books and pattern books, all for free!

Okay, have March/April 08, September/October 08, January/February 09 and June/July 09. Sent me a PM w/ address if you want them.

You can let them know how high you will go and by what increment (a quarter, a dollar, whatever you choose) and they will place your bid for you until someone bids over your limit. That's probably what the person who outbid you did.
