Thanks Jo Belmont for you kind remarks regarding my labels.
I have gotten some great ideas from this thread too. I really like the folded over square (triangle) as a quick label. I think the quilt and it's purpose dictates what kind of label you make. I think the hand embroidered label is wonderful, but would be time consuming, again depending on what the purpose of the quilt is (and how much time you have). As mentioned before, this quilt group is awesome!!!!! Dani |

labels are the last thing for me too. I do machine embroidery this time since it was patriotic I embroidered some fireworks and since I am giving them to vets I put USA along with my name and year. I usually sew it into the binding along two sides then hand sew the rest. I have so much fun making the labels to go with the quilts on my embroidery machine.

I add my label after the quilt is quilted and binding finished, however, for safty reasons I like the idea of putting it on before the quilting.

I love the way you did your label, I never thought of that either. Thanks for sharing.

i used to make embroidered labels for people on this board and the way I suggested to them was: I always put wonder-under on the back of the label, then you pressed about 1/4" under all the way around, removed the wonder-under backing paper and ironed the label on the quilt. Then you hand stitch all around the label. You can use a hidden running stitch, blacket stitch or whatever, just make sure you don't go through to the top of your quilt with your hand stitching. Really doesn't take very long and your label is very secure. Hugs

I sew my labels on by hand too.

This was a wonderful thread and I learned so much, even tough I have been doing labels for a while now on my own quilts. My next one will have two sides sewn into the binding and might even be a triangle! Thanks everyone for all the tips!

It seems I'm the lone person who attaches labels on the quilt by machine after quilting. My hands don't like to hold a needle and it's painful to maneuver the needle as well.
So far, no one has complained. I did try putting the label on before quilting once. It turned out I put it on too low and wound up cutting half of it off after quilting. That took me about a minute to get over, then I attached a new label over the remaining half by machine, then bound the quilt. |
I put mine on after quilting but before binding. I iron over the 2 edges that will be hand sewn later then I include the other 2 edges whilst I am attaching the binding.
