I love Aurifil Thread. It sews like a dream and there is very little lint. Comes in many weights and colors. Yes, a spool does last a long time. However, all of that said, I don't like being told what to do to or buy either and I agree that as long as you use good thread you should be OK. Yes, your machine will tell you. Have fun with your new machine.

I couldn't find Aurifil listed for sale at the site you linked to...

it's listed at $7+, cheaper than LQS but nowhere near the site Tristan that you gave us

Aurifil is on sale for $7 at this site with $5 shipping for up to 24 rolls.

I placed an order with her for some thread to try it out and for some fabric she had on sale about 2 hours ago and just got notice that she has already shipped it. What service.

I'm having trouble with this website. Each time I try to add another color, it opens a separate shopping cart. I got so frustrated, I closed the window without ordering anything. Anyone else have this problem?

My experience with aurrfil is all positive. Your bobbins are fuller and hence last longer. The lint is almost nothing.
The cost is not really that much more if we consider the amount of thread on a spool. I really like not having so much lint to deal with.

I've owned a Bernina for many years. I just bought a new one. Once you own a Bernina, you're hooked.
I use all kinds of threads. I may have to change needle types depending on the thread type. But, the machine will sew anything if you use the correct needle.
So go sew and enjoy. There is a world of thread out there. I do a lot of thread play with my machine quilting. You can, too.

That's my favorite thread in the world and worth every penny. And, yes, it lasts forever and my Bernina loves it. The one thread that I think is the worst, and I've tried out many of them, is Gutterman. It frays and doesn't appear to be very strong. I've never understood why JoAnn's carries so much of it. Back to Aurifil, it is harder to find it so when I do, I buy several white, cream and grey's.

Just a follow up - if anyone has issues with the ordering, contact the shop. They were very helpful in placing my order via email. Great service!

Sue,that's the best price I've seen for single spools. I won't be needing any for a longtime - bought 2 of the 24 spool boxes from Tristan's. Today I used a turquoise I never would have had without those assortments.

what is the link for ... 8 for $15? the above link has more than 35 pages of stuff to look thru... got a quicker way to find it? thanks,

I do see a '6 for price' but it is for the same color, not your choice of colors, is that the same for the 8 for $15?

Try this link, Sue http://www.tristan.bc.ca/cart/home.p...rt_direction=0

If it doesn't work, go to previous link, on the left click on Aurifil. It's 10 pages - then sort by price... The above is for poly, I think. But if you go to pg. 9 or 10, you'll find cotton sets. Or if you want to try smaller spools there are sets of 12 for $20. You can also click on doorcrasher on the left, that'll take you to the biggest assortment special for the month.

I got two of the doorcrasher specials in April, $56 each for 24 spools!

Hi, I just checked the Bernina USA website. This is quote from there:
Frequently Asked Questions
Do BERNINA® machines "prefer" polyester thread to 100% cotton thread?
A BERNINA® sewing machine will sew with almost any thread, but remember that your time and talent, as well as the fine quality of the BERNINA® machine, deserve top quality thread for the best results. Select quality thread brands like Mettler, Isacord, Madeira, Sulky and YLI.

We suggest Mettler's Metrosene long staple polyester for most of your garment construction sewing. When piecing 100% cotton fabrics for a quilt or quilted garment, Mettler Silk Finished Cotton is an excellent thread choice. Both threads are high quality with a consistent diameter, even with darker dyes, and the long staple means that there is very little fuzz build-up on the thread path and inside the machine.

For embroidery, we suggest Isacord Polyester thread, Mettler Polysheen Polyester thread, Mettler 30 wt and 60 wt cotton thread, and Yenmet Metallic Wrapped Polyester Thread. YLI and Superior also make good quality embroidery threads as does Sulky.

Aurifil is wonderful. but I much prefer connecting threads or signature threads.

Marilyn Woolley 01-22-2011 11:55 AM

I always use Aurifil thread it does go farther with more on a spool
