In answer to recent questions about my avatar - this was the dilemma: I have no pictures of the few quilts I have made. So I decided I would use pics of other things I have done. The option was some origami pockets I had made or the embroidered toilet paper. Which do you think would work best?

How in the world does one embroider toilet paper?? Either one of your pictures would be great!

nativetexan 05-15-2011 02:36 PM

cute, cute, cute. (i thought Texans were born and reared, Cattle was raised). sorry, couldn't resist that. that's what i always say and people look at me as if I were strange......

dunster 05-15-2011 02:38 PM

Well I was born in Texas but not raised there (after the age of 5) so I guess that's why I've never seen embroidered toilet paper. How in the world do you do it??? I would use that avatar just to stir up mischief.

craftybear 05-15-2011 02:41 PM

both cute ideas

I've heard that one before! Don't worry about the strange looks - native Texans are a unique breed, ha ha!

I've never ever heard of anyone embroidering on toilet paper! Why don't you alternate them - you know, give a month to one then change and give a month to the other.

Roll out a double layer of toilet paper large enough to fit on a hoop making sure the tp is folded under to lay on the hoop, extend the roll of paper far enough to allow hoop to go on sewing machine (handle very carefully, giving plenty of room for the hoop to move). I layered heavy/med weight stabilizer, toilet paper (2 layers) then wash away stabilizer on top (clear, see through type). Center your design and sew (make sure design will fit within edges of toilet paper. When finished, carefully remove from hoop, trim stabilizers to edges of tp. Roll back onto roll. Tear washaway from around edges of design (do this very, very carefully, holding down the edges of the design as you tear to keep from tearing the tp. Wrap in Saran Wrap and decorate package as you desire. Have fun - they are unique conversation pieces!! I am attaching pics of more options I made.

valsma 05-15-2011 03:17 PM

As a joke, unique conversation piece, as a challenge. My question is always - Why not? ;0)

I have had some great times giving them as mementoes, gag gifts, etc., depending on the occasion.

I also say, Why not ? Most people decorate their bathrooms. Why not have fancy schmansy toilet paper to decorate the shelves ? I think they are cute and certainly conversation pieces. Go for it !!!!!

My uncle "pumps" toilets for a living and their bathroom is done in a outhouse theme I've just got this years gift idea. They have the heat stabilizer that you iron and brush away might work well on the TP Keep the Tp

Essiescott 05-15-2011 04:13 PM

I love your embroidered TP, I've done some, may I ask where you got your Texas designs? I'm an almost native Texan, only been here about 48 of my years, live with 3 native Texans. Also love your little pouches, would love info on both.

These are for the person who has everything and you don't have a clue what to get them for the Birthday, or what ever.
It is like a 'just for fun' thing.

Hi fellow Texan, although I live in Alabama now I was born in Texas. I always say anyone can become an American but one must be born a Texan. I love the toilet paper. Glenn

The TP would be great for an Over the Hill birthday gag gift with Preparation H and Metamucil or some other laxative.

Would you, pretty please, post the instructions for the origami pockets. Those are great! Thanks in advance.

gzuslivz 05-15-2011 06:36 PM

I, too, would love the instructions for the origami pockets. They are awesome!

I would be glad to if I had created them myself, but believe they are copyrighted by the lady that sells the pattern on her blog. You may find them at the following url: http://www.romanianquiltstudio.com/e...s-patterns.htm

Please see my reply to grambi.

Grambi 05-15-2011 07:37 PM

Thanks for the link to the pattern. Don't mind buying the pattern at all. I think quilt and other pattern designers deserve to be paid fairly by the people who use them.

Jammin' Jane 05-15-2011 09:00 PM

Those are really cute! Thanks for the link!

I have some elder friends who are very much die-hard Auburn fans. I am, too, but they are really gung ho. They had some funny things in their rec room like a ceramic, burgundy colored elephant (Alabama's mascot) missing it's butt. The saying printed on the side was, "That's the last time I tell an Auburn tiger to bite my a@#!" So as a youth group member I thought it would be funny to get them something for their bathroom. I got the rest of the group to go along with me and we purchased a toilet seat that had the AU symbol on the top of the lid, but when you opened it, it said on the bottom of the lid "Go Tigers!" We thought it was pretty funny. They did, too, but they put it at their cabin, not their main home. Oh well! But I bet they would love to wipe their butts with Bama toilet paper. Ha! Ha! Sorry for being so crude. Maybe I should order some for them?

Bonbonary 05-16-2011 01:59 AM

emblibrary.com has instructions for embroidering on toilet paper. I think it would be a great "gag" gift & certainly a conversation piece.

denilynne 05-16-2011 02:08 AM

May i ask where you got the outhouse embroidery, i have alot of emb patterns but not that one, i just redid my bathroom and the border has old outhouses on it, this would be a cute add on, thanks

grann of 6 05-16-2011 03:35 AM

Very Cute! But I think somebody has entirely too much time on their hands. My luck if I had a roll of that in the bathroom, someone would try to use it.

Tinabodina 05-16-2011 03:42 AM

Toilet Paper! So very cute!

eiltcoq 05-16-2011 03:48 AM

I love the origami pockets. I wonder if I could get the pattern, also. Thanks for sharing. Eiltcoq.

charlotte625 05-16-2011 03:48 AM

I like both pictures..........but the toilet paper is my favorite.....and it makes me feel like laughing..
BUT...you have to tell how you did it.
