Someone on this board posted a quilt they had made as a memory quilt and it was of penguins. The bodies of the penguin blocks were from shirt fabrics from the family member (I think it was a grandpa). I thought it was really cute and an appropriate way to remember someone....

I've seen very nice looking bow tie quilts that used shirt fabrics including plaids. Here's one I found - notice how the center of the tie is aligned to have the plaid running diagonal, which makes it super cute.

While looking for a nice bow tie quilt example, I came across this cute design (that I've never seen before). I think the plaids work really well in it.

I love Tartan's shirt block, but for a baby quilt, I think the penguin really fills the bill.

I thought of Penguins on Parade but seeing the patterns the others have shared, I think I like their ideas better!

Tartan-that shirt block is adorable.

Not know how much "yardage" you will have, but I'm thinking a simple HST made of solids/plaids or stripes would look great. I would cut starting squares no smaller than 5" but no larger than 9".

These examples use 6 1/2" cut squares. To make it bigger than the 40 x 40 size, just add more triangle squares.

Thanks for the link. Oh, I have made plenty of half square triangle quilts, but having all of those options and in color and in one place is useful. Bookmarked and my mind is spinning with new ideas for quilts.

Many quilt patterns would be fine, but I especially like the bow tie design for a baby. It is not a difficult one to make.

So many ideas! Little Lulu you should have many ideas now that can help you out. I for one love the Moda shirt. After looking at the pattern is looks like it would not be difficult to make. I look forward to seeing what you decide to do.
