Baby quilt using men's shirts

I think I am ready to begin a baby quilt for my first great grandchild using my late husband's shirts (his great grandpa of whom he will be named). My question is about the pattern/design. His shirts are mostly stripes, a few plaid and a few solid. What pattern/design do you all suggest? I consider myself an intermediate quilter. Thank you for your help.

Not know how much "yardage" you will have, but I'm thinking a simple HST made of solids/plaids or stripes would look great. I would cut starting squares no smaller than 5" but no larger than 9".

These examples use 6 1/2" cut squares. To make it bigger than the 40 x 40 size, just add more triangle squares.

I made a quilt out of shirts using a pattern called heart quilt. I don’t have a picture but I really liked the way it turned out. Just googled heart quilt and got a pattern.

Moda fabric has a free pattern on their site of a shirt. I did a trial block and I think it would make a good memory shirt quilt.

Thank you for your help. Believe me, I have plenty of shirts. I looked at all the different layouts for HST. Thanks again for taking the time to help.

How about an apple core quilt? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13iWcOriyZU

My favorite go to patterns for these special types of quilts is the Disappearing 9 Patch. You can establish one size of patch (2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 inches) and go from there.

I really do like Tartan’s suggestion better though!
