How large is the finished quilt? The blocks? Do you want the background fabric to be predominant (yellow)or more of a accent/blender (beige)?

If you tend to lean towards bright and cheerful quilts ~ then the yellow would accomplish that.
With the beige it would showcase the block(s) and be 'quieter' then the yellow.

You will get votes for each background color ~ BUT it come down to "QUILTER CHOICE"!

I like first one. I always go for the softer look. Just me.

JMHO - use the cream one.

I like the yellow, but I love bright colors. If I was making it for someone else I would go with the first one.

I love yellow but I think this one is too bright. The cream would let the batics pop.

I'd like to know what block you'll be making. Also just where and how much of the background fabric will be in each block.

The yellow "goes with" better. To me the cream is a little jarring - too diferent.

Like Grammy, I think it depends on what you're going for and how large the quilt is going to be. The yellow is bright and will dominate the colors. The cream will let the colors dominate and will be more restful. I personally prefer the more restful cream, but you should do what makes you happy with your work.

My vote is for the cream !
