The cream will definately be more 'neutral'. Yellow will give it a much more 'modern' feel or even what we quilters refer to as 'Amish'. Summay - yellow will be lively but restricting, cream will be softer.

Depends on the feel you like.

My vote is tan.

Personally I think that yellow makes your greens look sickly. A warmer, darker neutral would be a good choice. I might go with a rich coffee brown.

As bright and vivid as your pile of fabrics are, that screaming yellow dominates them completely. The quilt will be all about the yellow... The tan is a lovely compliment to the other colors and enhances them, letting them be the 'stars'... Just my opinion, but I would avoid the yellow except in tiny bits or very thin stripes. A little of that will go a long way.

I like the yellow. Seems to make the colors pop.

black would be a nice choice too- that yellow- is WOW! bright- i think a bit too much for the batiks- the cream would be a better choice in my opinion---something (softer) would work too- like a pale blue, pink, even yellow in a much (calmer) shade....unless of course you really want a (knock your socks off) Wow bright quilt! then go with the yellow :)

I'm sorry to say, but I think you need to go shopping some more. I don't think either of them work well. I've heard coffee brown and a dark neutral in the comments above and maybe that's the direction, but without holding the fabrics up against a potential candidate, I don't know what I would suggest. But one thing that stands out for me is that the complexity of shading in the batiks is not supported by the flat, solid color of these two candidates. There now, don't I sound like an expert? :)

Yellow is a very strong color and will take over a quilt. I like the tan but have you thought of using the new neutral of gray, maybe a very pale gray.

I like the yellow, but it might be a bit much in a border, yet I don't think the tan would be a good border, IMHO.
Maybe use the yellow, and then border with a thin yellow followed by another colour to finish?
