https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...s/confused.png Please advise for those of you experienced with using flannel as backing...what brand is good quality so as not to pill when washed? Thanks!

Since flannel shrinks far more than regular quilt cotton, l suggest you prewash the flannel. I use it for all my wheelchair lap quilts as it helps quilt cling. With low loft poly or 80/20, it quilts beautifully so long as you chose a rather open design ( ie: don't quilt it to death).

I back about 95% of my quilts with flannel. I always use batting. I like, soft, cozy, lofty, warm quilts.

Just a reminder to preshrink the flannel. It usually shrinks quite a bit.

I have used flannel sheets as backing for quite a few quilts. If buying new sheets, wash them a few times. I always look for used flannel sheets at yard sales. Makes a cozy backing.

The definition of a "summer quilt" is a top and backing only.
