Default Backing a quilt with flannel

I have never backed a cotton quilt top with flannel, and I am wondering do you still use batting. it seems like I should.

That's what I do. I love your Picasso line. I've used it when people won't take a no to mending something I'm not interest in doing. Gets the job done and leaves them smiling even though they got a no. , My personal mantra is if they ask I say no..... if I offer that's a yes. Picasso is smoooother!

I did--made for my son and DIL who actually sleep on sunporch (it's heated but still chilly) and they love it.

When I made one I used a low-loft poly batting so it wasn't as stiff. I also hand-tied the quilt (not my fav but worked with the quilt). On a different quilt I used a lightweight fleece and that worked without batting.

I just sandwiched a flannel top, batting and flannel back. Should be a cozy quilt!

If I want a summer weight quilt I just use the flannel and if I want it a little heavier I use batting with it.

I love to back quilts with flannel and I do use batting. The kids love the softer fabric but want the fullness with the batting.
