I am also looking for just the right pattern to put on our barn. We just built a huge ole barn, black w/copper roof. I love the black barns from Ky so this is what I have duplicated. I want it to look 100 yrs. old , ASAP. we are also building a rustic log home, almost ready to move into. Yeah!!! Will post my quilts on barn as I get them done. Love this site, Donna, The Rustic Quilter

We made one for my brothers barn. When we did it we printed out the block patter for an 8" block and drew it on the wood using 1"=1' scale for measuring

I should have read things more carefully. I have a suggestion for transferring your patterns to the boards. I used to use this in my classroom because I have no drawing skills. I have a projector that hooks up to the computer (you could probably rent one) and project your image. Changing the distance from your board will change the size. It isn't perfect but for me, it saved a lot of time because I didn't have to do that drafting/scale thing.

Last summer a friend and I travelled west on route 20 through Iowa on our way out west. We stopped and took pictures of the barn quilts in Sac County. I was about to open the door and step out into waist high weeds when we heard the whoop whoop of the siren. Once the officer understood what we were doing he pulled out the same brochure that we had and told us about some of the people who painted those particular quilts. He and parts of his family did one, and then I believe he and his wife did one other one. It was an informative police stop and we weren't ticketed. I think he may have stopped us for "kinda" doing a u-turn.
Attached are some pictures I took and a couple of sites to check out.
Have fun! DI

Sorry the pictures are so big. I don't know how to make them smaller.

Good Morning, I am wanting the pattern for quilting a barn quilt. The one of the barns. I do have Eleanor Burns book, but I saw a beautiful barn quilt when we went to Cody, WY to a quilt show and it was beautiful. I failed to ask about it. Does anyone know how or where I can find one?
