Ok so I am here for help. I have never bought Batiks! I like them just never needed them. Well I just got the pattern for the Dragonfly Garden Stain glass wall hanging and need Batiks, my question is where is the best, cheapest place to get them?

americassewplace 02-08-2011 06:10 PM

www.connectingthreads.com they have some that are reasonable

ssgramma 02-08-2011 06:13 PM

sewgull 02-08-2011 06:16 PM

I found a few at Wal=Mart.

gellybean402 02-08-2011 06:17 PM

What size do you need? I have a few FQ's for sale here on the board. Send me a PM if you haven't found any.

hperttula123 02-08-2011 06:24 PM

I would check to see what is on the board first. Most of the time people are selling great fabrics here. Batiks are wonderful. You will fall in love with them. :)

CompulsiveQuilter 02-08-2011 06:27 PM

Endless choices of batiks:

How do I find them on the board? I have never navagated far on this board..............

momcpo 02-08-2011 06:57 PM

I love Batiks. They are so easy to work with. Cheap Batik is an oxymoron though, lol.

always the BEST and sometimes the cheapest!

Though cheap is not always GOOD...the ones at connecting thread are a bit thin!

Click "Home" at top of this page. Then go to Members buy/sell/trade/-classified and see if someone has posted that they have batik fabric for sell.

ruthrec 02-09-2011 04:35 AM

www.connectingthreads.com has some. The quilt that is beside my name on this board is all batiks. I fell in love with them and when I'm shopping I'll pick up a yard or two just to have them. I have a large clear plastic tote full of batiks for future projects that I haven't dreamed up yet. I bought my quilt batiks at a little quilt shop in Bentonville, AR. I don't think they do mail order and since I've moved away I surely miss them. They also introduced me to Precencia threads. I love those threads, too.

craftyone27 02-09-2011 04:43 AM

Beware of inexpensive batiks! Cheaper isn't always better. The fabric quality and color fastness of dyes is not always good in the less expensive batiks. I would definitely look on the board classifieds first as those fabrics are usually LQS quality. Can't wait to see pics of your project!

Here's the stained glass dragonflies that I just did. I used batiks that I found while on a trip with my husband. I admit I didn't look at the price tag because I loved them so much. I added some batik scraps that I had left from my avatar quilt and I love the result.

CarrieAnne 02-09-2011 04:51 AM

Lois, that is a beautiful quilt!

quilt3311 02-09-2011 04:52 AM

I've used the Connecting Threads batik sets. You can buy different combination set either strips, quarters etc. I found the fabric was really nice.

rosalyne 02-09-2011 05:40 AM

Hoffman's of Padukah is having a sale. My material is on it's way. The service is great. I ordered from them before. Also Seawatch fabrics. com has pages and pages of Batics.

Lori S 02-09-2011 05:48 AM

I use Thousands of Bolts , They carry top name manufactures and one of the least expensive sources.

quiltingnonie 02-09-2011 05:51 AM

fabricdepot.com and today'squilting.com both have good quality batiks, and often have them on sale. Quality batiks are always $10/yard full price, so if you find them for $6 or $7, consider that a deal.

joyce888 02-09-2011 07:18 AM

Be careful when purchasing "cheap" batiks; you get what you pay for. I had the misfortune of buying some from JoAnns that shrank, bled, and looked awful after washing. I have found that Hoffman and Kauffman are the best and can be purchased at many websites. Examples are Todaysquilting.com and Fabric.com. I've also found that if it does not look the same on both sides (meaning you can't tell the right from wrong side) it isn't a good quality.

mhansen6 02-09-2011 07:37 AM

Piecework Fabrics is having a sale right now and they have a large selection of batiks at $5.95 a yard.

hairquilt 02-09-2011 07:38 AM

Fantastic find. Better than Hancocks of Paducah. Thanks so much!

QuilterChick 02-09-2011 08:45 AM

Currently FabricDepot.com is having a sale on beautiful batiks at about $5.50 per yard. Hoffman etc.

Normally $9.99 at my LQS.

Also, try the FatQuarterShop.com

BatiksEtc.com in VA sometimes runs sales. Awesome quilt shop if you're in the Wytheville area... Road trip? :)
I've bought her jelly rolls that she makes up and they are soooo nice. She only carries exc. quality.

Quiltbeagle 02-09-2011 10:41 AM

I've found the best prices at

Thousandsofbolts.com and Connectingthreads.com

scisyb220 02-09-2011 12:13 PM

I would check out FabShopHop.com and search via their search engine. It will bring up shops that have batiks, the prices and so on. Also, check out some of the shops in the shop hop who usually have sales in connection with the shop hop. I have seen some beautiful batiks the shops listed by jaciqltznok, and also at Fabric Buffet. Good hunting!

jamannix 02-09-2011 12:29 PM

I HIGHLY recommend Stitch-n-Frame.net They have Thursday
specials and frequently have batiks on sale.
I noticed in an e-mail from Webfabrics.net that they are having a sale of the great 1895 line of Hoffman batiks. However, a sale
on Hoffmans which are often $10 or even $10.50/yd is $7 which
still adds up rapidly. The sale is only until 2/12/11.
There are other web sites, like Batiks Plus, and you can look at
their sale/clearance sections but if you want to get started and not wait for sales, I'd take a look at the first two.

Dkm 02-09-2011 12:37 PM

fabric.com is having a sale right now. beautiful fabrics.

ckcowl 02-09-2011 01:19 PM

batiks tend to be a *higher end* fabric...anything under $10 a yard is a real deal!
be sure to pre-wash...batiks bleed because they are hand dyed, not printed.

Jackie D 02-09-2011 02:51 PM

crafttown fabrics has a nice selection and very good prices!!

QM 02-09-2011 02:57 PM

Once you start with good batiks, you will want to use them more and more.

Ditto. I just bought a few yards there.

IBQUILTIN 02-09-2011 06:59 PM

I would also say Connecting threads, because you can buy in groups

MarshaM 02-09-2011 07:19 PM

Rexene 02-09-2011 07:28 PM

I was just in Field's Fabrics today and they had quite a few bolts of batiks for $5.98 a yard.

sjbolyard 02-11-2011 08:11 AM

I used batiks (love, love) once for a queen size quilt that is beautiful. I bought the fabric at a quilt shop. The fabric stores, like Joanne has ok fabric but when I make a quilt, I want the best fabric so to the fabric shop I go. And there is a difference.

lindy-2 02-11-2011 08:17 AM

this shop has lots of sellection and its not cheep(thin) fabric some cheeper batiks are very thin and they can tare easily .http///www.cherishedpeices.com
