Batting/backing for Linus Quilts
Last couple of months I have been using up my scrap stash making quilts for Linus. A couple of weeks ago was able to get a large roll of batting with a 1/2 off coupon at JoAnns. Then this past week-end went to Salvation Army and Goodwill stores and found a bunch of sheets. So for about $50.00 I have enough batting and backing for 13 quilts for Linus (and a lot less scraps):)

We are on the save wave link. I just went to a thrift store also and got very soft sheets and have already made 3 charity quilts, the sheets are great. Good job, I also love making the charity quilts.

For our community TV program we interviewed one of the "Linus" ladies here in Oregon who has made about 4000 Project Linus quilts.

Thats ace in my books as I also buy nice sheets for backings even in my quilts for home here, they work out just fine.

Has anyone ever seen this batting before:
http://www.checkerdist.com/products/6720WNCH It's called Batting by the Bolt, and it comes 62 inches wide, which would be perfect for Project Linus quilts. The distributer told me to ask my local quilt shop to order it for me, but despite several emails, she's dragging her feet and says she's still looking into it (I've emailed her the link). I'm wondering if anyone has ever used or purchased this particular batting. And to the original poster, SCORE! |

She may not want to add another item to her inventory that may take some time for her to sell. The whole bolt could be split with another quilter which would cut your dollar outlay. Retail on this item would be around $8.30/yard. If she would give you a discount for buying the whole bolt, possibly around $6.00/yd, this comes 15yd./bolt. That would be around $90.00. Just a thought |
