Batting for Placemats

I'm making some placemats and tried using polyester batting in the first one. I didn't like the puffiness. I thought polyester because the placemats would be washed a lot. I want a flat look. What recommendations do you have? Thanks, quilters!

I use quilters fleece. Not to thick and stays flat.

I can tell you what not to use and that's fleece. I made one that refuses to lay flat.
I use cotton batt or even flannel for batting.

I use Warm and Natural.
gives it body but not too thick. I usually set wine glasses right om table not on the mat.

I use warm and natural. I will usually have enough scrap around that if not enough for a whole placemat usually enough pieces to piece together. They lay nice and flat and wash well.

I use Pellon product PEL988. They call it "white fleece", but it's very thin and recommended for table runners. It's lovely to work with. I've made many table runners and place mats, and there's no problem with wine glasses !

The Warm Company has a poly batt called Soft & Bright that I like. It's not at all puffy and I think it would work well for table runners.

I usually use Warm and Natural and don't have any trouble with it being too puffy. The placemats wash well too.

Some good discussion I found using "search"

I prefer a product we used to call Needle Punch...not sure if it is still called that, as I am still using up stash. It makes for a nice flat mat, plus when it is washed it keeps its' shape.... My place mats made with Warm and Natural really need smoothing out when damp to look pretty.
