Batting Question---

I received my JoAnns ad today in the mail, and they have 2 door busters for the next couple of weeks, one is a 20 yard roll of 60 inch Pellon siliconized polyester batting and they have a price of 29.99 regular 99.99, anyone ever use it? Your thoughts? The other is 25 yard roll of Pellon Natural cotton batting 90 inch wide for 99.99 regularly 274.99. Anyone use it? I have been using Warm and Natural for years. These look like a good deal, but I know sometimes good isn't always good.

I saw these and was also wondering. I have never used Pellon brand. Looking forward to hearing from others.

When it first came out a couple of years ago (?), Joann's had a special on the Pellon Cotton Queen size package so I bought it.

I haven't noticed any difference in the quilt (as opposed to W&N), and it's been washed several times.
Similar weight, feel, and thickness.

(fyi - I prefer dense quilting so it's highly unlikely I'd ever have shifting or other issues)

Interesting that you mention the door-buster because I walked by the roll of batting tonight and thought about getting it.
I decided I had enough for a few quilts at home already.
For $99 I might have to rethink that on Tuesday.

I didn't see the rolls, but I bought several Pellon Nature's Touch 100% cotton battings at JoAnn's. The king size is 120x120 and at 50% off came to $23. One of the packages had been inadvertently cut open on the side so I was able to feel it. Yummmm!!! Plus it can be quilted 8 to 10" apart. Probably would not have purchased it except that I had recently read this review online:
http://raevenfea.com/reviewing/pello...touch-batting/

She mentions that she thought it was closer to 1/8" loft, but from what I could see and touch in the package, it really is closer to 1/4" loft. I also like Mountain Mist Blue Ribbon 100% cotton batting, and *that* batting is closer to 1/8".

Sorry that was off-topic, but maybe someone else can benefit from the info.

Regarding the Pellon roll you asked about, if it's Pellon #2107 or Pellon Natural One (they seem to be the same batting by different names), it gets pretty good reviews on eBay. If you Google the name you should find several sites with reviews. My impression is that it is similar to Warm and Natural. Be careful when comparing prices, as many of those online are 45"-wide rolls.

Feel it before you buy it. I did use some Pellon I bought on a queen bed and it was wonderful and soft.

QM 11-10-2012 10:04 PM

I have not bought it but friends who have like it.

AnnieH 11-11-2012 12:33 AM

We dream of prices like that here. Go and get it!

Ive used the pellon for yrs and love it.

PaperPrincess 11-11-2012 05:02 AM

I've used the Pellon Legacy cotton batting and it worked very well. Thanks for the heads up, got my flyer, but haven't looked at it yet!

Bookish One 11-11-2012 06:58 AM

If anyone decides to buy the Pellon batting, there are dollars-off coupons on the inside front cover of the flyer which can be used on the purchase of sale items, so if you bought the 25-yard roll for $99.00 you could get another $15 off.

Tashana 11-11-2012 07:15 AM

Thank you for the heads up!

Toni C 11-11-2012 07:16 AM

When is the cotton batting on sale? Do you have to have a coupon for it?

Tashana 11-11-2012 09:27 AM

Thank you for the heads up!

I am bummed I have not gotten my flyer yet!!! What day is this sale??? I do know not all JoAnns flyers are the same for each area... My Mom's flyer is sometimes different than mine.. especially with whats under the flap.

KarenR 11-11-2012 10:20 AM

Waiting to read more reviews.

donnalynett 11-11-2012 10:30 AM

The sale date is Tuesday, Nov. 20th and it is one day only.

batikmystique 11-11-2012 05:26 PM

I've never used Pellon, but am glad to have read the reviews here. It will be good info to know next time I need to buy batting. Already stocked up last time JoAnns had a good sale. Plus, I need to build my cash stash back up after the trip to Houston last weekend for the quilt show.

I think there was a thread on the Pellon cotton batting awhile ago. I was very unhappy with the queen sized cotton batting I used (decided to try because it was on sale). It left lint all over. Back to Warm and Natural or Hobbs 80/20 for me. I suggest trying it before investing in a 25 yard roll.

margecam52 11-12-2012 01:23 PM

I use the pellon (brand name) poly batting a lot. I'm chomping at the bit for that sale...Hoping for two or more rolls, will have hubby in tow. I use this for most of my quilts. I don't know about the cotton...I've not had good results with plain cotton batting...but do use the Warm n White, as it's needle punched, so very stable.

If you read the fine print on the coupon---you can not use it for the daily deals :( Oh well such is life.

Essiescott 11-12-2012 01:29 PM

Well with all that has been said I might just go get some---I know I will be getting a gift card this week for my anniversary---and this would be perfect way to spend it---by saving a bucket load of money on things. Thank you so much for the insight.

The poly or the cotton? Or both???

nstitches4u 11-12-2012 06:55 PM

I have not used Pellon batting and I would certainly hate to buy 20-25 yds. of it and then find out I didn't like it. I would be interested in comments from people who have used it.

Thanks for mentioning this.

True enough.

But there are the little single sheet coupons - like the ones they gave me last night as I was checking out - that do NOT explicitly exclude door-busters.

We'll see tomorrow if it works.

Lucio 11-13-2012 09:00 AM

I found it to be the most linty batting I have ever used.

booklady1952 11-14-2012 06:26 AM

The dollars-off coupons cannot be applied to the "door-buster" specials, i.e. the 25-yard roll of Pellon batting.

margecam52 11-20-2012 11:22 PM

Did anyone get any of this today? The Joann's I went to had no clue what was in the Door Buster flyer, or which batting it was. Disapointed...it was a 70 mile trip wasted.

quilticing 11-21-2012 02:53 AM

The first roll I bought seemed like 1/4". The second roll seemed much thinner. For the (regular) price, I'm sticking with Dream products.
