I just think the quilt, and especially the table runner in this book Quilted De'cor is beautiful. I just hate to spend that much for a pattern. Is there a quilt block similar to this one?

Chickerson 06-27-2011 02:04 PM

Have you tried Cache Cow? They have hundreds and hundreds of block patterns free. I just printed off 12 blocks for a star quilt I want to make - happy hunting :-)

DebraK 06-27-2011 02:08 PM

lol @ Cache Cow ;-)

That really is a pretty pattern for the runner that is featured. Did you notice that its actually patterns for 8 different projects? It doesn't seem that bad if you divide the price by the number of project patterns you get.

Loved the Cache Cow, too!!!

:D :D

GingerK 06-27-2011 02:25 PM

The block is a churn dash with a windmill in the middle. I don't think it would be that hard to draw on graph paper.

Yooper32 06-27-2011 02:41 PM

Don't know about the pattern, but the name really cracked me up...toadusew, as I was sounding it out I then burst into laughter.

virtualbernie 06-27-2011 03:09 PM

Looks like you can make it with squares and half square triangles... draw it up on graph paper--not as hard as it looks.

Dee Dee 06-27-2011 03:17 PM

Thank you. I knew if there were a way to be creative with it my quiltin' buds would find it. I have a feeling there are many of you who are much better at using graph paper than I am.

My thoughts, too.

Thanks...I think the top right corner in the pink and green is off, the blue looks correct... neat block.

Dee Dee 06-28-2011 02:46 AM

I love what the two of you did in EQ. I think you've duplicated beautifully. How do I handle the connecting blocks?

Psychomomquilter 06-28-2011 03:16 AM

cache cow! yeah! there are other links too for free patterns

Vat 06-28-2011 03:46 AM

If you look at it closely it is squares and half-square triangles. It is the way they are put together that is so nice.

Aretta 06-28-2011 04:02 AM

The Electric Co. Block Base has churn dash and 4 varations
You can print a pattern free,if you have the cd rom or know someone who does

That website is not available.

You do get 8 patterns in the book. What I like about ToadUSew patterns is they are easy to follow. Each pattern is triple tested - each tester checking to make sure there are no glitches. How do I know this? I used to be a tester for them, in fact I was called "The Queen Toad". Colleen Reale and Chloe Anderson are friends of mine so I helped them for the first few years. They are really nice and, if you get stuck, they will help you out. I've never had any problems and I am direction challenged - a real dummy. Try it out, you won't be disappointed.

Free quiltpatterns.com

Jo Mama 06-28-2011 05:48 AM

Just type in www.toadusew.com and it will come up. Use the search box to find it.

Jo Mama 06-28-2011 05:49 AM

You notice their logo? It has a tiny Canadian flag in it - Chloe is from Canada.

grumpy90650 06-28-2011 06:08 AM

cant get the link to work, would love to see the table runner....

star619 06-28-2011 06:52 AM

Great site! Thanks for posting it.

Stitchit123 06-28-2011 07:27 AM

Go to the library Dazzling Stars and several other books have this pattern and step by step instructs

fabricbeforefood 06-28-2011 08:01 AM

I would bet she met quilterscache.com!

wickn34 06-28-2011 08:35 AM

It looks a lot like pinwheels.

adrigram 06-28-2011 08:47 AM

this one is correct...it links the block to the next one in the table runner

roadrunr 06-28-2011 10:07 AM

That is such a pretty quilt block, I know why you would like to make it. I have seen something like that somewhere, but I don't recall where.

sorry - I meant the pink one links the star block to the next one in the table runner. The blue one is the star block alone. Thanks to both of you for graphing them for us, and to Dee Dee for starting this. That book is very tempting...too bad I don't have another 50 or so years of quilting left in my lifetime! Bonnie

cheryl rearick 06-28-2011 10:36 AM

Sure is a very pretty pattern, have fun :)

lalaland 06-28-2011 10:39 AM

Try this site and look at the free quilting patterns by manufacturer, maybe you can find a quilt with a similar block and download the pattern.

http://www.fatquartershop.com/freequiltpattern.asp

Also, here's a free site that gives you the directions for over 1600 blocks, you have to click on the names but you could browse through and maybe find something similar as well

Suz 06-28-2011 10:46 AM

It is a beautiful runner. I haven't read this entire thread, but offer the following hoping not to be redundant: Please attempt to draw it on a piece of graph paper. If you look closely, it is a 6x6 patch - 2" grid for a 12" block. You can see enough of the pattern to draw it and then erase the appropriate lines. -- I am sure you can do it.

Let us know. Good luck. Suz

BellaBoo 06-28-2011 11:04 AM

I imported a picture of a quilt, crop it to one block and then use the trace feature to trace the block and then the tracing is converted to a block drawing in EZ draw. Of course there are no sewing instructions. Sometimes it's better to buy the pattern to get the construction method that makes it easier. I buy patterns/books for the construction methods not the actual block patterns.
