Lint rollers work great for removing the worst of my cat's hair from her resting places. Unfortunately, my cat's long hair still is present on me and my clothes when I quilt and I don't lint roll myself often. I don't worry about it. If I was quilting for others (paid consignments) then I would worry about the buyer's allergies. Food for thought...thanks for making me think.

I have a dog (Missy) that sheds more than any cat alive. I also have a cat who sheds some too. I take my clothes, quilt items anything that can fit into the dryer and put it on air for about 20 minutes. It makes it spotless.

I do not mean any dis-respect to any of you cat lovers (I am a shih tzu lover...I have 9 of them) but I don't let my dogs lay on any of my quilts or fabric. They don't shed hair, but I don't care, they ARE NOT laying on my fabric, becuase I don't know where that fabric will end up at as a gift. There is a very wide difference between owning a dog and being owned by a cat! |

There is a very wide difference between owning a dog and being owned by a cat! You're right a cat 'owns it's pet,(person.) There are 2 cat's & 2 dogs here,& both have hair all over my house! When ever I get around to making a quilt for my DM (who is very allergic to cats) I'll take extra care when I make it, & I alllllways wash my quilts when I'm finished with 'em.The potholder I made her doesn't seem to be bothering her. If I were to make quilts for sale or something else I'll always tell 'em about the pets, then it'll be up to them whether they want 'em. I certainly don't want someone who is allergic to cats to get sick from one of my quilts! |
I just realized that what gets covered in animal hair at my house is my afghans!!! They have to go in the dryer weekly!

My cat has an angora type long hair and you can see it floating in the air. Lint rollers are purchased by the dozen and the washing machine is going constantly. I am fortunate to have a separate room for my fabric and he is not allowed in there. I have even found cat hair in the freezer! Just have to clean, clean, clean and use those lint rollers. I would not give up my cat for any reason.

In the freezer???? Wow, I thought I was unique. My cat's hat also floats through the air. It caused the fire alarm to go off one day in my apartment. When they came to fix it, it was full of cat hair! |
Well I have 2 siamese (my boys) who think they are human and own the house. Yes they come into my room which is why I put window seats in for them. It seams though that the seats are not as comfortable as my fabric or my current project. So I joined the "lint roller club". Membership is cheap and everyone (my boys included) is happy. Did you know that the Medical Association has found that people who have cats are less likely to have a heart attack or stroke. The reason is that cats demand your attention and we will stop what we are doing to give it to them. They are a natural stress reliever :)
