Do bee fabrics "creep you out"? Or are you only afraid of real bees" (I know what my MIL would say - she HATES bees!)

How about other bug fabrics?

Should I even ask about .... snake fabrics?

Quilter7x 08-30-2010 07:24 AM

I'm actually making a bug quilt right now and these bees would be a perfect addition to it.

Snakes might creep me out, but not everyone. I'm loving the bees! :)

lynnie 08-30-2010 07:26 AM

i'm allergic to bees, but the fabric doesn't bug me it's cute, snakes i like the fabs i've seen, usually cute ones with smiles

GrammaO 08-30-2010 07:32 AM

I hate real bugs-anything with more than 4 legs is just creepy, but the fabrics don't bother me at all. Of course, most are very colorful and cute, that helps. I don't like snake fabric....I mean, they don't have legs at all. Ewwww.

trupeach1 08-30-2010 07:33 AM

I am allergic to bees and wasps, hushed to the ER the whole nine yards. I like the bees and cute little buggy fabrics for childrens quilt, they don't bug me. lol

icon17 08-30-2010 07:35 AM

I have some small pieces I got thinking I would do a quilt for my granson who likes small stuff 8-)bugs and anything teny tiny

hazeljane 08-30-2010 07:38 AM

I have a god daughter named Bea. And every quilt I have made for her has bee fabric in it somewhere.

quiltilicious 08-30-2010 08:00 AM

I have some really cute bug fabric. If they look cartoony it's fine. If it were realistic looking, DD would freak out. :)

I have snakeskin print fabric that I've made clothing from.

Grama Lehr 08-30-2010 08:04 AM

I like the silly bug fabric!!
Forget the snake stuff!! Yikes!!

JenniePenny 08-30-2010 08:12 AM

That fabric is cute. I don't mind the bug fabrics at all. Don't mind real bees either. We just have an agreement to leave each other alone. Sometimes bees actually land on me but I don't freak out, then they leave with no problems.

clem55 08-30-2010 08:20 AM

As long as they are cute cartoon bugs and snakes, I like them, but I wouldn't make anything with real looking creatures. NO WAY!!

sueisallaboutquilts 08-30-2010 08:25 AM

Most bee fabric has cute little faces. It's cute! Remember the ant fabric that was around some time ago?? That sorta creeped me out b/c they looked real lol
I love fabric with cats and dogs or anything with a cute face. But snakes???? AAAHHHHHHHHHHH :D

sewmuchmore 08-30-2010 08:51 AM

I love bugs ,frogs, butterflies and bees on fabric. Everything has it place. I love your fabric. Is it up for grab.   Snake is another matter. I hate them. :x

mommaB 08-30-2010 09:05 AM

Bugs OK...snakes -bad!!!

Gaabah 08-30-2010 09:08 AM

I bought fabric similar to that for my father. He's a bee keeper and he sells honey with my sister. Bees to scare me but I'm SLOWLY getting over it.

I've just ordered the honeybee fabric for the shop, and it will probably be a couple of weeks before it arrives. It's by Michael Miller. They had a pretty floral fabric that was part of the same group and I ordered that too. What are bees if they don't have flowers to pollinate? Anyway... it had the same shade of gold in it so I thought they would be good together.

I love the bee fabric. It would make cute pillows for my reading area since I am Mrs. B. and have bee decorations all over my classroom.

Quilting Di 08-30-2010 12:38 PM

I have a nice variety of bug fabric. A friend even brought me a yard from Paducah a year or so ago to add to my collection. However, there will NEVER be a snake fabric in my collection!

elkridgequilter 08-30-2010 12:41 PM

I am a retired life science teacher and I LOVE insect fabrics. Butterflies are my favorite but others are fine too. Snake fabric is okay but it would have to be for just the right quilt. I'll buy insect fabric just because I like it.

Quiltforme 08-30-2010 04:48 PM

Bees are cute but I guess I would have to have a open mind with my son who loves all things gross and slimy. So yes i would look at them!

MegsAnn 08-30-2010 10:59 PM

If they're cutesy, that's great. If it's some fabric of a realistic looking tarantula chowin' down... that's something else entirely.

quilt3311 08-31-2010 04:03 AM

Once did a bug and crawly things jar quilt for a grandson. He loved it.

tdgiffin 08-31-2010 04:05 AM

No snakes for me!!! Ewww!

CarrieAnne 08-31-2010 04:14 AM

I like bee fabric, I think most of the stuff is really cute, even bugs wouldnt bother me, but snakes, EEEEEEEWWWWWW!!!!

nana2 08-31-2010 04:19 AM

I love the bee fabrics and would also like for all of us to stop and think about all the good things do for us. The bee population is dwendling and causing concern about how our food supplies (vegetables) will be polinated. Long Live the BEE!!!

quiltmom04 08-31-2010 04:29 AM

Have you checked out bugfabrics.com? You'll love it!

My grandkids called my mother "B". She was an alteration lady all her adult life and was known for her expert sewing. Now that she is gone, I try to put a little "bee" fabric in all their quilts, just to let them know "B" is still with them. Corny I know, but it keeps her memory alive.

I think that's a great idea! Sounds like the "goldbug" in the Richard Scarry series I read to the kids when they were little.

Mariposa 08-31-2010 05:14 AM

Bees-no thanks for me, but I can put them in a kid's quilt.
I got swarmed when I was little, so I will pass!
As for snake fabrics--you can keep 'em!

Helen Bankert 08-31-2010 05:21 AM

My Father was a beekeeper. So of course bee fabric has a special meaning for me. My sister and her husband took over the business so I make things with bees on them for her.

Snakes do to me but DS 10 sleeps under a snake quilt. He specifically asked for it. He is also the kid that has a a bug quilt.

Also have an adult son that is into spiders. I made him a pillow case with realistic spider fabric and his room mate at college forbade him to use it.

I wish bees weren't so maligned. My Dad and I raised bees when I was a little girl. They were like our pets. They really are docile and industrious little critters. In all the years we raised bees, the only time I got stung was when I did something dumb--and I did it knowing that I would probably get stung! My Dad did three tours in Vietnam and I took care of the bees while he was gone. He wrote me letters with instructions on what to do next.

Anyway . . . bees are some of my favorite people. If we didn't have bees, we wouldn't have honey, fruits, vegetables, etc. Wasps and Yellow Jackets, now that's a different story. I hate those buggers.

Right now, I'm looking for Ladybug fabrics and not the ones with a lime green background.

I'm a Master Gardener. We learned that most of those wasps etc. eat the white flies, mealy bugs and aphids so they are really our friends too

Ladybugnana 08-31-2010 08:26 AM

I am all about butterflies and especially ladybugs. If I see a piece with ladybugs, I almost always buy it, even if I can't or shouldn't afford it. It is my major addictions.

See? Even the most unsympathetic among us have their purpose.

I even have a Ladybug watch band. My friends know my likes so I'm getting quite a collection. Since I'm a MG, my girl friend got me a candy dish made from clay pots painted like a LB. I love it.

dixiechunk 08-31-2010 08:41 AM

As a matter of fact I have a big piece of very realistic snake fabric that I would love to do a purse in...so I can have a snake skin purse. Hee hee hee. Unfortunately I have big time problems making purses.
