GrammaNan, I don't know who you are, I'm not on the board very often, I'm not even one of those you made promises to but I just want to let you know that I'm very sorry for all those mishaps that came upon you this past year and I can relate to this: our last year has been a crappy one too. I know how it feels like when everything seem to be tumbling around your ears, you seem to fall into a big hole and can't find the way out and you're just frightened to see what tomorrow brings... But I can tell you after every storm there is sunshine and when the night is at it's darkest, it's just before dawn. I hold on to this myself and I hang on to God's promises in my life and I realise that although patience can be very bitter, the fruit can be very sweet too. I wish you all the very best for 2011 and may it be for you a year full of sunshine and peace at heart!!!

Alondra 01-05-2011 03:25 PM

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear about your illnesses and the drying up of unemployment funds. What have we come to, that we can't even provide jobs for our own people? I hope this year is kinder to you in every way. Maybe we need a prayer "circle"....

plainpat 01-05-2011 03:28 PM

I think most ppl of a certain age have had bad times we made it thru.So we do understand.Hugs & prayers that things will be better for you & yours this yr.

I have learned Life goes on in many different ways.
If someone gets mad at you they aren't your friend.
I found out the hard way in life.

I need a sewing machine because mine broke and I can't afford one now I just can cut and put away things to sew later.
I don't even buy anything for sewing either.
I love to read all the things people are buying maybe someday again if not oh well I guess I'm not suppose to have it.

head for thrift stores ! people got new machines for Christmas & are giving up their old machines. oil & clean & generally you can get a good deal. maybe even take fabric to the store & try it out or get a return promise. the older the Singer, the better it is--I mean pre1960. all you need is a straight stitch for now. wish you lived near me, I would fix you up ! just practically gifted (had to charge her some for her ego) two sewing machines to a lady who could not get hers fixed or a new one right now. what a great feeling. So good you are feeding yourself now with chatting with all of us. some days none of us get any sewing done because we want to read all the stories and help where we can. Pm me if you need advice on an older machine.

Thank you all for your kind words. This means so much to me. Things will get better, I have faith and I believe if you have faith in God you also have to have faith in his timing. I don't have much access to the internet right now, but I hope that will change and I can be on the board more often. Here's to a great 2011!

I live in Colorado and it is one of the states that don't qualify under the new extension. It only applies to states that have had an 8.5% unemployment rate for the last three months. Colorado has had a rate of 8%. Missed it by .5%

Mousie 01-05-2011 06:22 PM

I just happened onto this and I am ever so glad you spoke up and just said what was going on. bless you and may things get better.
Last year we had a member that had "life to get in the way" and she just disappeared! I even wrote her a letter and apparently she just couldn't bring herself to come back. that's so sad. Good for you for having courage. We've all had 'stuff' and had to say our mea culpa's. ;-)

grannyp70 01-05-2011 06:23 PM

GrammaNan, you just put your faith in the Lord and he will help you through all of these bad times, he says that he will never put more on you than you can stand, but sometimes it seems like it though. I will keep you and your family in my prayers and I pray that things will be better for you all soon. I am sure that who ever you promised something to will understand, so try not to worry about it. You can make up for it somewhere down the line, if you need something to help you with your quilting please just ask and if I can I will be glad to send something to you. Sending you GREAT BIG HUGS

Jingle 01-05-2011 06:43 PM

I sure hope things get better for you real soon. I've missed not seeing you on here.

Pat-- you may have already checked this out, but if not here's an idea. Check with any thrift shops, Salvation Army stores, Good Will etc and see if you can barter having their sewing machine repair person work on your machine for volunteer hours. You never know and all they can do is say no, no harm done!
I don't even buy anything for sewing either.

Now I don't know why my comment posted that way hope you find my message to you it's almost at the end of your quoted message. Sorry!

annieshane 01-05-2011 07:03 PM

I am so sorry to hear about your situations. Like you, my last 1-2 years has been very trying. I am thankful that I am still working and know that somehow I will work myself out of the debts caused by taking care of family members. Somewhere in all this, I will find the rainbow, just as you will.

We can all tell you to hang one and keep looking up, but sometimes it is so very hard. You certainly don't owe your friends any apologies, your friends understand. Don't blame yourself, life can sometimes be very unfair to even wonderful people like you. We don't understand why, but somehow we get through that valley and come out on the other side. I pray that your walk in this valley will be strengthened by knowing that others care about you, are praying for you, and understand you are doing all you can. Sure wish you were closer, I have a machine that I am wanting to do something with. I would offer to mail it to you, but it is extremely heavy. It is an older all metal Kenmore and actually uses cams for decorative stitches. Gives you some idea of age.

God bless and keep us posted. We care!

craftymatt2 01-05-2011 07:29 PM

I am so very sorry for your troubles, I am new to this board, but one thing for sure is, this board has a lot of caring people and we all understand your situation, I to will be praying for you and your family, prayers do help, and i know we all could use a lot of prayers,If there is anything else I can help with, please do not hesitate to ask. I would not do anything to hurt anyones feelings and i don't have much, but i am blessed also. and would help where i could

annette1952 01-05-2011 11:16 PM

So sorry to hear of your bad times. Hopefully you can find a job soon so you can get back on your feet again. I absolutely know what you are going through because I am in a similar situation. Try to stay positive & strong. Things have a way of working themselves out but it sometimes takes time. One thing for sure is you have tons of quilting friends that are there for you. It really touched my heart to read all the things they wrote to you. God bless you & your family & to a prosperous New Year.

auntiehenno 01-06-2011 12:31 AM

Bless you GrammaNan. I haven't been on the board for a couple of days and was having 'withdrawal symptoms'. I thought it was very fitting this thread was the first one I opened. The caring and blessings given out by the members of this board keep me coming back for more 'feel good'.

The extension also doesn't apply to the ones who have been out of work for 2 yrs. The ones they call the 99er's. My husband just ran out of his unemployment.

Ann63 01-06-2011 07:07 AM

Wishing you a joyeous New Year. We go through hard times in life so we can appreciate the good times. If it never rain, would we really appreciate the beautiful suuny days? I had a bible study several years ago that taught me to focus on the things God had blessed me with rather what I did not have. Stay strong, there are brighter days after the storm.

Am sad about your problems, you have been so good at telling those you had promised to; do so hope things turn around very quickly. Hugs.

Sewing Grandma 01-07-2011 06:05 AM

I have been told that we are where we are at in life for a reason and it is where we are meant to be. There are lessons to learn from every situation we are in, look for the positive in what you are going through. When a door is closed, the Lord always opens a window. Prays for you and all of us who are experiencing tough situations. You will be blessed in the end. Keep the faith.

Anne T 01-07-2011 11:04 AM

Hang in there. Things will turn around. Keep positive.
