annie123, do you know where you bought your seam guide? I would like one that screws into my machine bed such as they made for singers years ago but can't seem to find one. Could you post a pic?

I use #37 foot and the screw in guide, too. I bought it from my dealer years ago, but I'm sure you could find one online.

I have an older Bernina 1530 and I bought the #37 foot when Bernina FINALLY came out with the 1/4" foot. Can you believe there was a time when Bernina didn't make one?? I have not seen the #57 foot.

Bernina calls it a Patchwork Seam Guide. I asked about it the last time I was in the shop and the dealer needed to order it in for me. The unit is not very expensive either, I hear it is a good thing to use.

My Singer screw in seam guide works on my Bernina 1260. I think I had to buy a new screw to fit, it's been too long ago to remember.

The problem with these feet, is that yes they do a 1/4" but not a scant which is what most quilters need. I own 10 Berninas and have to make sure I keep my seams a smidge inside the edge of the 37 or 57 foot. The guide on the 57 foot is pretty useless if you want a scant 1/4" unless you move your needle over. So, unless you keep the seams inside the "toe" of the foot, you will need to move the needle over one or two spots to get a scant 1/4".

I've got both feet, and really don't care for the #57 - I still manage to find a way to let the fabric slip under the guide. I do better with a solid guide - like a stack of tape (Bonnie Hunter uses old hotel room keys as her guides). I also have to remember to look in front of the needle not directly at the needle for better control.

I bought mine from Blow's Sew and Vac in Fargo, ND. It is a Bernina accessory. I also have an old Singer ( 301A) and found on the website sew-classic.com a " universal " seam guide that appears identical to mine for $1.99. The Bernina one I bought does not fit the 301A Singer( the screw is too big) I would like one for the Singer too so was considering trying the "universal" one. Good luck. I would be interested to know if you find one for your Singer.

I find it harder to keep a 1/4" seam with my Bernina 180 which has the 9mm stitch width even with a single hole throat plate. All those feed dogs keep moving the fabric around. While I love the 37 foot that I use with my older Bernina 1090, it does not give me a scant 1/4" seam. With practice, I found just the right place to put the fabric which, on my machine, is just under the foot so that the fabric barely disappears.
