Thanks All! I am still looking and checking out your suggestions...online of course. Like NJ Quilter, I do prefer to try it out in person.

I sold office furniture for years. Look for a tilting seat and back that locks independently. Usually there are three paddles on the side. One for height, one for the seat and one for the back. They aren't cushy but can be tilted an way that feels good to your back.

I have an ancient office chair without arms. No gas cylinders so I set it and forgot it and it still works. I sit with the back right up against my back to help me sit straight. Works for me

I have had a bad back(now more or less fixed) and you do need to watch height of seat and have good support to your lower back.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have reward points from bank card and am leaning towards ordering from WayFair. now the question is which one?

So many good options, pbraun! You want to look at the seat shapes and hopefully know which ones work best for you. You also want to look at the foot ring/stand position and size. So hard to know what fits without trying.

I could be happy with a couple in the $100-200 range, but I think this would be my choice just above that:

edit: notice that you choose either rolling or standard feet. Roller balls are also a consideration depending on what your surface is. If you have carpeting, many people like to put down a hard runner if they are machine quilting on a rolling chair set up.

Iceblossom, thanks, that is one of the chairs I was looking at...

Look for a draftsman's chair. This was recommended by the sewing center where I bought my high table.

Thanks Toverly. I was wondering about all of the "paddles" on some chairs.

Look for the ring on the bottom helps too. If it is not there it appears that the seat will not be hight enough.

BTW - I lied! So sorry - I actually ordered from Overstock.com - not Wayfair! Sheesh. I just went into my email to look for brand, at least, that I ordered and couldn't understand why I didn't have a confirmation from Wayfair. Good grief.

At any rate, the brand I ordered was Serta - model Leighton. Definitely not the style you are looking for but I am happy with the product for whatever that is worth.

Good luck.

I am hoping to make a decision and order today or tomorrow. Thanks for all the suggestions. When I first searched I was looking for tall sewing chairs. No luck. Thanks again.
