Thanks for posting this. I didn't know about this tool until I watched the You Tube video. I have arthritis and holding down the ruler is painful. I think that this tool would be easier on my wrist.

If it doesn't have measurement markings on it isn't it difficult to insure that you are getting the proper measured cut, especially when it involves a measurement other than just full inches?
Put it on top of the ruler. It's made to hold the ruler in place and to protect your fingers from the blade. |

It looks handy, but makes for an awful lot of gadgets out on the cutting table! I put the little rubber spots on the back sides of my rulers and they don't slide at ALL. They are by Dritz and are called Clear Fabric Grippers. 24 in a package... I can tell immediately if I've picked up a ruler to use that doesn't have the grippers!

I bought mine at a quilt show but some fabric shops are carrying them or you can order on line. The smaller size will work for most work but I have both sizes. Get the neon color instead of the clear (I have the clear but wish I had the other). It really doesn't take a lot of pressure--about the same that you would put on a ruler to hold it in place. I use another ruler with it instead of the grid lines, I line up the cut I want to make with the ruler extending to the right (I am right handed) and but the slide lock up to the ruler, press down, slide the ruler out of the way and cut. Hope this helps you decide. I have short arms and as I reach to hold the ruler down it always slips. With the Slide Lock I don't have that problem.

My questions are Where did you buy it? What size did you buy? What color did you get? How much pressure do you have to put on the ruler?? How difficult is it to change from looking at lines on a ruler to using the grid on the mat?? I just don't want to buy anything that won't work for me. I have lost over half of my motor coordination but I am still making just tops for charity. You have to have something to do when you become disable !! I have NEVER cut myself with a rotary cutter but now I am really concern with safety!! THANKS :) |
I totally agree! Best tool I have bought yet. I absolutely love mine. I plan on getting the larger one someday.

I have both sizes, wish they came in smaller size like maybe 8 or 9" for squaring up string blocks.

I may be wrong but in the video it appears that she only used the lines on the mat for squaring up the original cut on the edge of the fabric. Then she uses the lined rulers to measure.
