Several weeks ago I got a PM from a member here who saw that I lived in Batesville, the home of Marshall Dry Goods. She said that she and her sister-in-law were planning to come to Batesville and wanted to visit.
This morning she called. She and her DH were heading back to Texas after a visit in Mississippi and came out of there way so she could come to Marshall's! I met her there about 9:30 and spent the morning going through the store with her. We visited, looked at pictures of each other's quilts, told each other short versions of our life stories, and bought fabric! Then I took them (qb friend and her hubby) to one of my favorite places for lunch!
We parted about 3:15 as they still had a 9 1/2 hour drive home. It was a wonderful day spent with wonderful new friends.
That is the best part of quilting board...the wonderful people that are on-line friends, who become personal friends! Maybe when she and her sister-in-law came to visit, they will consider staying with me!

That sounds like a really good day!

craftybear 09-27-2011 02:02 PM

Awesome, I have met other Quilting Board members from all over the USA, we have so much fun!

So happy you got to me them today!

Please set up meet and greets in your area at your local quilt shops, meet for lunch, show and tell and have fun visiting with other quilters

sweetpea 09-27-2011 02:03 PM

what fun for all of you.

valsma 09-27-2011 02:04 PM

I'm so glad you had such a wonderful day meeting new friends from the qb.

I've been fortunate to meet a few of the lovely lady's who are on this qb and even though we haven't had an opportunity to become close friends, I have enjoyed meeting them all. That is why i'm looking foward to this upcoming retreat, getting to meet more of you.

jansquiltn 09-27-2011 02:05 PM

I'm not surprised that you all had a wonderful day. Quilters are a wonderful group.

Colbaltjars62 09-27-2011 03:47 PM

I have met a few of our board members that way. We also meet once or twice a year now for mini retreats and it is a blast. I hope that you are able to meet more board members and can possibly start having retreats yourselves.
Heck plan on a visit to the Oregon coast and perhaps we can meet up! ;)

boxerlady 09-27-2011 03:53 PM

I have meet several board members ...of course several of us are in the same quilt group here in KY...We planned to go to a meet and greet in Elizabethtown Ky after the Heartland of Kentucky Quilt Show last saturday but, had to help with going thru a 22 yr old niece's belongings. We lost her to acetaminophen poisoning 2 yrs ago and no one could bare it until now

...DID anyone meet after the Quilt Show????

Sounds like you made a friend for life!

pastimesquiltdesign 09-28-2011 05:55 AM

Quilters are great. Our love of fabric, design, and creativity provides us with an instant bond. :) Glad you were able to meet and have a fun day with a fellow quilter.

unclefreckles 09-28-2011 05:57 AM

That is great. I am hoping to meet a quilter from Colorado that is coming for the Balloon Festival in Albuquerque. I like meeting others that quilt and just visit.

Murphy1 09-28-2011 06:21 AM

We did something similar a few months ago. We met on the QB and set up a time to meet at a Quilting Store that had just moved to a new location - Shared Stitiches in Cameron Park. We met, shopped and went out to lunch. The group is meeting at one of the gals houses this Thursday for some quilting time. Love the women and hope many others in our Sierra Foothills will get together for another shop and talk gathering.

Ruby the Quilter 09-28-2011 06:38 AM

What a great day. Maybe I should look at having members in this area get together.

BellaBoo 09-28-2011 06:47 AM

Where did you eat? My guild is planning a trip there in a few weeks. I'll let you know when and maybe we can meet!

Murphy1 09-28-2011 07:24 AM

Not sure if you are refering to the Shared Stiches quilt meeting or the one back east. We met at a small dining place in Cameron Park. I forgot the name of the cafe. But there are other fun places to meet - we stopped at High Sierra Quilt shop that day to. There are lots of small quilt shops in the Folsom, El Dorado Hills, area off hwy 50.

I'm happy for you. Friends are a gift. I hope to make lots.

running1 09-28-2011 07:46 AM

Sounds wonderful!! What I love is that, even if you don't get to meet in person, you feel like you know everyone personally!! Every time I've had a question, many have responded, often within minutes... with great answers!! Where else in the (cyber) world is this true????

Feathers 09-28-2011 07:49 AM

I'm so glad you got to meet a new friend. It's easy to bond with fellow quilters because we all have a common bond right out of the gate in which to build a relationship...we quilt, love fabric, have kids, great families and we're all generous with our knowledge, advise, and help. With a great foundation such as these friendships grow. I'm part of a QB group here in the PNW who get together now and then at individual homes and we do a beach retreat a couple times a year. I love the ladies I've met through this board and look forward to meeting more of the ladies in the future.

Bren 09-28-2011 11:05 AM

Haven't met anyone in person yet, but the ones I've PM'd with and talked to on the phone have been terrific!

gramquilter2 09-28-2011 11:47 AM

Sounds like you had a wonderful time and added some extra fun to their trip.

Sandra in Minnesota 09-28-2011 02:40 PM

Met some very nice ladies at our Minnesota meet and greet. I even learned something new about quilting.

heather1949 09-29-2011 04:52 AM

Wow that was great and i'm glad you had a good time.

valerieolm 09-29-2011 07:22 PM

Very nice. I love stories like this. Here's hoping the friendship continues to grow.

jeanharville 09-30-2011 06:25 PM

I am happy for you and them not only to have a fun time at Marshalls which is great, but to meet new friends. How much better can a day be. Thanks for sharing your fun with us.
