To keep things even (and positive), we need this thread on what we like best too!!!
My favorite part is picking out the fabrics! |
I like designing, looking at a pile of fabric and seeing what it wants to become.
oh, deffinitely picking out the fabric.
Worst? paying for it! :D M |
Finding new patterns!!
Ditto, Moonpi! I have to stroke all my fabrics and lay this one against that one and try to picture what I want to do with them!
the very first part, picking the pattern, picking out the fabrics and cutting and organizing and piecing
My husband says he can tell when I am starting a new project by the look on my face! LOL And I am sure my mood changes too! |
First best part would be picking out the fabric, second is the look on the face of the person who receives your quilt....
One of the best parts is getting a concept then picking the fabrics.
The best, best, best part is seeing through to completion. Barbara/NYC |

The best, best, best part is seeing it through to completion. Barbara/NYC PS-Sooryt o send it twice. MUST HAVE MORE COFFEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! |
The best part for me is that last stitch on the binding. Then I know it is finished and ready to be curled up with. Then on to another one!!
Barb |
The best part for me, is the IDEA, of what I want to make, then the quilt when it's done. It's the completetion of my vision. Its like my Minds Eye coming to reality.
I absolutely love the dreaming and deciding on what I want to do.
Then, I like the completion of each step. Since I've never kept a quilt I made, I love the joy and enjoyment it brings to others. |
The best part for me is the finished quilt. All the work has finally paid off!
Sondra |
The designing and drafting of the pattern.
I also like the hand quilting, but unfortunately I don't have much time for that, so most of my quilts end up machine quilted. |
I love picking out the pattern and putting it together. That is so much fun.
I guess I just need someone to cut and do that binding and I would live in a perfect world. lol :D |

This is an easy one.
Napping under a newly completed quilt for the first time. I do it with EVERY quilt I make. Even the ones I give away. The ones I make for my hubby or kids, we nap under together. Brings tears to my eyes sometimes, during and the after thought. |
I love shopping for the fabrics and touching them alot. Yup, I'm an admitted fabric fondler......
Imaquilter- we have a similar custom at our house. My husband takes a nap under every quilt that is made in our home. It is his rule (and my pennance for buying all this fabric ) My husband claims that he is giving the quilts a quick hug before they are given away :):):)
picking out the block design then imaging the fabric for it
I love to see the pleasure on the face of the person I give it to :D Thats the best...
I think the look on the receivers face is a given
Finding the fabric is my best part. If I have a bad day at work, I go to the fabric store just to look and touch the fabric. It makes me feel better. Only problem is I never get out of there without buying some.
I love buying fabric - just keep on buying. Where ever we go on vacation I go to at least one store and buy fabric. On our way to Mississippi tomorrow - north west - anyone know of a store?
I definitely like picking the design and the fabric. But I like sharing it with everyone on here. Everyone always gives back such positive feedback. :D
The best part for me is making the top--once the blocks are done, it is work to get it sandwiched, quilted, etc. Sewing is my number one relaxing fun thing to do.
Well, besides seeing the finished product (which I think for every quilter is a favorite, hands down) I really like the design process. Granted, when I really get focused on a project I can get in over my head a bit and end up driving myself nuts trying to come up with something I'm satisfied with and then figuring out how I'm gonna do it (ah, the life of an artist).
Oooh the COLORS! I love picking the colors and then putting them together in a pattern. Aaaahhhhh! Must be why I love the glass doors on my fabric cabinets too....
The best part for me is seeing the fabric and the design pops into my head.... then I just have to buy the fabric, can't leave a design trapped can I? lol :)
The best part is finding a design that takes your breath away and already seeing the colors you want. My second favorite part is giving it away to someone special and knowing I had a part in making that gift precious.
I agree with you Barb ! The best part is when it's DONE :!: :!:
Good question Anne Marie!:0)I think the best part for me would be the 'hunt' for a project or fabric..walking up and down aisles of bolts after bolts and then fingering thru fat quarters...than I'd have to say the best part is going home and prepping the quilt pattern w/my new fabric...oh, and then the best part is sewing all the blocks....oh and then the best part is putting all of it together including the binding...oh and the best part is...sleeping under it....oh?! Anne Marie...was that just 1 best part??How can you really decide:))LOL Oh, and another best part...is finding and adding notions in my sewing basket....oh, and then there's the best part of sleeping w/a flash light looking thru all the great quilt magazines...oh, see, there I go again...:)Skeat
Skeat :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :You are ABSOLUTELY right :!: :!: :!: :!: :!:
Ditto Ditto Ditto to everyone
I like designing my own quilt sampler like I did with the red hat in my Avatar. I also enjoy piecing, most of the time. I like to learn new techniques and to improve in known areas. It is fun to try new patterns too. Now if I could just get better in the quilting part itself the JOY would be complete.
Looking at quilts someone else has made and trying to figure out how they did something; looking at fabric and picking out all the different colors and then listening to it tell me what kind of quilt it wants to become.....I've got so much fabric just waiting to become something wonderful but I won't cut into it until I think I've mastered whatever block pattern I'm trying to learn. I even have one piece that I've had for two years now -- just too pretty to even cut. I think I'll turn it into a whole piece quilt.

My favorite part,
Ok this is gonna be hard to put into words. My favorite part is when I'm kinda in the zone. I love all of the parts of quilting, but my favorite part is the feeling of piecing together a top with nearly no mistakes, or Piecing blocks together, and looking to see that the seams match just right. I can just go on for hours and hours when I am in that zone. Any part of quilting that puts me there, that is my favorite part! |
Everything !!! (except the sandwiching part)
I'm a true fabric fondler! |
